So far for 16 i know i will be dropping Kosta Browne and Denner, possibly Horsepower

Not currently planning on joining any, unless SQN gets my info mixed up with someone from 15 years ago !!

Anyone else planning changes ?

Keeping...

RM (Panek Cab - how could I ever let you go?)
D&R (Nothing less than a very good wine yet)
Bedrock (select favorites, but generally like to support the heritage wine ideal)

...the rest are game time decisions, but this coach is ready to bench some former starters. At this point in my wine drinking evolution, I think that I've paid enough tuition to learn what I like, and very few Cali lists have made the cut. And one board favorite in particular has had enough chances to charm me, promise me that what's to come will be worth it, but I'm done hoping.

Of course, not counting MI, this seems to be a USA winery only question.

Everything is pretty much a game time decision except Saxum and Rhys (Chards). I still plan on buying more 13 Napa Cabs, but everything is going to depend on pricing. $100 seems to be the "new" $40 and $75 the new $30. Not sure i want to continue to play in that sandbox anymore.

Oh, and I guess Carlisle and Bedrock at the basic entry level wines are a for sure. Great values in Syrah and Zin.

Keeping for sure:
Jaffurs, great QPR Syrahs and Rhone whites
Carlisle, great QPR Zins and Rhones
Bedrock, great QPR everything
EMH, lovely Cabs
Saxum, hedonistic Rhones
Alban, see Saxum

On the fence, will depend:
Nicora, good Rhones, but, I have so many others.
Turley, good, but with Carlisle and Bedrock....

One bit of advice if it helps anyone - every time I've asked a winery, including ones where I had some kind of automatic club-type shipment - if I could pass on a shipment, they've very nicely said no problem.

I'm sure that doesn't apply to every single one (I'd guess SQN and some others might drop you), but I'd guess it applies to the vast majority.

So if you want to cut back but leave yourself the option to come back in the fall or next year, you might just ask. The worst they can say is no.

On the other hand, maybe you either (a) are certain you don't want to come back or (b) want to cut off the temptation to spend and to accumulate down the road, and in those cases, just resign.

Planning not to buy from any lists in 2016. Of those I've bought from in the last year, year and a half, that'd mean skipping: Rhys, Ceritas, D&R, and even (gulp) Ultramarine. Well, we'll see. Took all of four days for me to break this year's resolutions for the first time.

Similarly, I had a winery reach out to me one time regarding my low purchases and what my intentions were. I politely said that I enjoy their wines, but my budget does not allow me to purchase a lot of it. What I really want to do is be able to buy 2-3 bottles each offer so that I can enjoy some of their wines every year. They understood, and so instead of being allocated 12 bottles of some wine, they dropped the allocation per wine.

Regretfully, I'm dropping my one and only list - Rhys.

Love the wines but I have a lot of them and I don't have any more storage space.

Probably not drop any on my own, but if they drop me no worries here. I just tend to buy a few from each producer I like, allows me the variety I enjoy but not really able to age wines I have little experience with. If I can sometimes will source past vintage on the secondary market before I buy it from a list. I'm not really on any wait lists either that I'm overly concerned with getting on at this point. Since joining WB I've been "influenced" to not feel the pressure of lists as much, it's helped except the times I show up at pickup's that are offering wines I didn't buy then I spend even more than originally planned!! This is a lot of what I need to do - just buy fewer bottles from each of the producers I stay with. It makes more sense for me to add 4-8 bottles from most of these producers in 2016 than to add a case or two.

Of course, you miss out on some incentives (case discounts, free shipping) and your shipping cost per bottle goes up, but most of that isn't enough to really move the financial needle in respect of what we're spending on wines.

I'm on LF. I passed last round and I'll be dropping this round.

I dabble with Turley and will probably continue to do so. I'm going to buy more Bedrock and maybe add Herman Story (love the wines) this year.

Edit: totally forgot about Andremily. Keeping.

Already passed on K-B single vineyard and Schrader. Will pass on Rudius and Horsepower. Added Calluna and hoping to add Arista. Keeping Bedrock, Carlisle, Reynvaan, K-B appellation, Rhys, Williams-Selyem and Aubert. I only buy about six bottles per year from each list.

Good advice, that's my plan as well.

I'm sufficiently deep on just a few producers, dominated by Californian wines. The volume I decrease in domestic wines I will partially offset by exploring more European wines.

Keeping
Carlisle
Myriad
Bedrock
Becklyn
Thomas
Vincent
Sandlands
Drinkward Peschon
Rivers Marie (mainly for the cabs and chards)

On the fence
Liquid Farm. I love the wines but my wife is only luke warm on them.

Dropping
Schrader (ok so I just made the list this year and didn't buy but I still consider it dropped)
Maison Ilan
Dirty & Rowdy

My main goal, as with Chris, is to buy less from each but keep the variety in my life. I am out of space and need to cut back on spending.

On: Rhys, Myriad, Quivet, Becklyn, D&R, Windy Oaks, Arcadian "GC Soc.", Cayuse,

Dropped: Liquid Farm, I like the wines but have plenty of them and need to lighten the obligation to lists.

Considering dropping: At least one of the Mike Smith wines as we don't drink much Cab, mostly Pinot or other lighter wines. Maybe down grade my WO preference since I have a lot of their wines. Would appreciate feed back on those since I really like both producers but space and budget are a concern. Maybe drop Cayuse since I have not been wowed by the wines and again we tend to enjoy a lighter style.

Somebody needs to create a service where somebody could just order a bottle or 2 from wineries that sell out on lists and put it together in cases for shipping purposes. At this point, I am off all lists but with the current prices I have found BB members who will share a part of their allocations because the cost of taking allocations have become so expensive.

I stumbled across Arista back in 2009 because nearby Williams Selyem was closed for a corporate function. I ordered for many years but stopped since I migrated to other lists (Kutch, Rhys, Peay). Last year at this time, I drank through some disappointing Arista 2011s and sent an email to Mark McWilliams expressing my displeasure. He responded with a very passionate email about their wines and wine making techniques. He sent me free of charge two 2013s (I am waiting until this year to try).

I then read in WS about winemaker Matt Courtney and him bringing Arista to the next level. I'm anxious to try again, especially since this is the first time I've read here that someone else wanted to be on the list!

This is a great idea. The challenge is that whoever the "aggregator" is would want to markup the cost of the wine so that they could make a profit. That said, I suppose folks might be willing to pay a small markup for certain wines if it would allow them to try new things without having to make a huge $$$ commitment up front.

The other issue is that for folks like me who live in TX, I can't order from internet retailers unless it's direct from the winery, due to laws that unfairly protect local distributors. I would immediately move off of lists if I could legally order from places like K&L, etc.

I'm staying on:
Ridge Z-List and ATP
Calluna
Rhys, but thinking about going all Chardonnay
Dehlinger
Littorai
Bedrock

On the fence:
D&R. I really like these wines, but do I like them 2X my favorite Cru Beaujolais? I can't help but to think that every time I try one.
Sandlands

Wait listed
Saxum. Really want to get on this one, but I think I will be waiting a while.
Becklyn

I used to be on a lot of CA lists but went completely away from buying domestic wines for about ten years. I never regretted dropping any of them (including SQN and Harlan.). A recent trip to Sonoma got me interested again and some recommendations here have been very pleasant surprises.

Now, back to lurking.

For sure getting:

Bedrock
Carlisle
Thomas
Myriad/quivet
Williams Selyem - really just the appellation wine
Sojourn

Fence:
Rhys - will be having some over the next week or so to determine if it's worth continuing. I just haven't opened many and the price is on the higher end of what Im comfortable buying without tasting first.

Stefania - I have a lot
Rivers Marie

Off:
Schrader - the price increase did me in

Keep:

Bedrock
Trujillo
Myriad
Quivet
Mending Wall (oddly not mentioned on this thread)

Drop:
Cleaned house last year

Fence:
Maybach -- Am I nuts? I'm just tired of the $150+ tariffs

My palate has really shifted away from Cali cabs. Interesting in scouting some new syrahs and BDX

I have essentially already dropped everything except Copain because i am focusing on European wines again (Champagne in particular). I don't think I will drop Copain anytime soon unless Wells leaves or decides to change styles in some radical way. The wines just never fail to please me.

I am considering ordering Rhys again because I love the wines (see my note on the 2010 Alpine PN from a day or two ago). Thing is, though, I have a ton of Rhys, and the pricing is getting to be an issue. I think Ceritas wines are unique and interesting enough that I may pull the trigger on their wines again
"Oh, bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!" ~Alex

Having gone through a few years of "list-mania" as I've built up my overly U.S. centric cellar, I'm not sure what I'm going to keep or skip. I continue to like a small list of wineries, but worry that my inventory is becoming less diverse. All that said, here are the ones on my radar, which I'll assess as each releases:

Considering:
Rhys (PN, Chard)
Aubert (Chard)
Bedrock (Zin, Blends)
Kutch (PN)
Detert (Cab, Cab Franc)
Becklyn (Cab)
Ridge (Cab, Zin)
Ultramarine (Sparkling)
Torrin (Syrah, GSM)
Littorai (PN, Chard)
Alban (Syrah)
Rivers-Marie (Cab)
Myriad (Cab)

That's a lot of lists. So I'll have to carefully consider how these fit into my collection.

Chris Seiber wrote:This is a lot of what I need to do - just buy fewer bottles from each of the producers I stay with.

+1 ---Pretty much sums up my strategy as well, if I don't get the darling bottles from each producer that's OK, everything in time or the secondary market!

Keeping:
Fidelitas
Syncline

Dropping:
Reynvaan (can acquire locally at list prices +$5)
DeLille (club exclusives are meh, discount just knocks wines down to retail, 1 tasting/quarter is pretty stingy)

Adding:
Trisaetum (riesling+++)
CT: the_lovenest
