I passed on Saxum too. Seems available on the secondary market at decent prices and I’ve mostly moved on from powerful Cali wines.

Someone upthread mentioned Cayuse at 5 years - I think I signed up like 7 years ago and still haven’t received an offer. I was lucky enough to get on the UM and MacDonald lists early, so set there.

Scott,
I thought you only bought wines that ship during heat waves! [wink.gif]
Sorry, I've had that happen too.
UM and McD's are great lists to be on.
Cheers,

Didn’t realize Ultramarine and Macdonald were so quick

I am guessing he means how long he has been on the wait list, not the actual time to get a release.

I received an allocation to Saxum earlier this year and bought a few, then skipped the second release. Hopefully I will not get dropped. I received my first allocation to SQN this year but passed due to covid concerns. I emailed letting them know the situation, hopefully I will get an offer next time. Both took about seven or eight years to crack the list.

Scarecrow isn’t hard to get an allocation. I was offered (and bought) the 2015 and 2016, but passed on the 2017. And I never bought any of their second wines either.

less than 3 years now? Looking back at my email, I see I signed up in 2013 and received my first Scarecrow offer in 2019. I dont know if the list shortened. (Etain is very quick). I will put it at 6 years for now.

Oops! I must have read the thread wrong earlier today. I thought it said time still on the waitlist and waiting....I've had no luck yet with the above wineries, but hopeful I'll make Ultramarine next year, Michael confirmed this morning "I only have a couple hundred ahead of me". For the meantime, I just picked up some Cruse Tradition.

I turned into a Syrah junkie in 2004 and signed up for Alban, SQN, and Saxum after discovering my first love wine, the Alban 2003 Reva. I had never tasted a wine like this. So bold, with flavors of bacon, tar, and jammy fruits. Back then, there was no wait for Alban or Saxum and I bought my full allocation of Alban and Saxum for a few years until my tastes started to change and I dropped out. I still have a few bottles of the 100 pt. 2006 Alban Lorraine.

SQN was another story - I think I waited 8 years and started receiving offers in 2012 and even though my tastes have changed, I have purchased mostly full allocation ever since, and it's all sitting in my cellar. I have no idea what i'm doing with it - I have every estate box from 2011 forward. If anyone want's to trade for some cool climate pinot and chardonnay, let me know! haha.

A note on Marcassin - I signed up in June 2017 - Received an offer a year later for a case of their 2012 Marcassin Vineyards Pinot (they must have had a glut of wine) and have not heard a peep since despite several follow up inquiries about where i stand. Perhaps part of the SQN success story should be attributed to their treatment of the waiting list, which by now is legendary. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Marcassin who does not even respond to emails.

I’ve been on the Screaming Eagle waitlist for going on 14 years. I don’t know that they’ve added any new members in several years. Curious to see when active folks on here made the leap from the waitlist.

I joined the Saxum waiting list 3 years ago and received an update from Justin last week stating that the estimated length of the wait list is 5 years from date of sign up, so I still have a couple of years to go :)

Regarding Scarecrow, I think the estimated waiting time is now closer to 3 years - based on my personal experience and that of a friend.

Cheers.

While 3 years could very well be true of UM, I read someplace last year that those signing up on that day should expect to wait close to a decade.

Received my first offer from Saxum this year, I think after 7 years.
I always thought I would at least try it but decided to pass.
I already drink a lot of of CA Syrah and I am perfectly happy with wines that cost $30 - $40.
Could not see the logic in spending over $100 on one bottle and I could also buy it at auction for the same price with more age on it.
Also I am trying to diversify more, would rather spend that money on N. Rhone or Barolo.

There has to be a way to 'mathify' this.

Waiting list time is proportional to the ratio of resale value of a current release on the secondary market to the release price?

Seems like a good prediction of what we'd see with data, though I doubt it's a linear relationship.

Just realistic.

Though not involving highly allocated wines, I've received some substantially increased allocations from a couple lists.

If you're waiting on SQN, you might find the wait shorter for Manfred's other labels. Next of Kin is maybe a little faster at 6-7 yrs, but Third Twin might be an easier get.

Have to imagine given that Scarecrow was released right when the shut down order hit most of the country that there was lots of turnover on the list this year. I saw that with other wineries that opened up allocations that were previously wait list only deals. 2018 for Scarecrow is going to be one of the greats.

When I joined the Scarecrow list in early 2018 they had sent me an email saying the waiting list was around 3 years and that I would expect to get on the list in Spring 2021. I guess that was inaccurate?

Like some others mentioned, by the time I made most lists I was no longer interested in the wine - a combination of prices moving up a lot and signing up before I had the interim years to discover more about what I really like.

Anyone know the wait time on Tusk? or is it referral only?
Why don’t you ask him what’s going on

Of those mentioned here:

Saxum
Signed up Jan. 14, 2012 and got on the list July 30, 2019

SQN
Signed up Aug. 3, 2012 and still haven't made the list. I do use a hotmail account, so sent them an email from my gmail account to see if there's an issue. (Edit: Just got an email from SQN that I was sent an email back in July to confirm my interest, which I never got. They just made a note of this on my account.)

Screaming Eagle
Signed up Dec. 26, 2011 and still waiting... maybe my kids will get on the list.

I’ve been on the Screaming Eagle waitlist for going on 14 years. I don’t know that they’ve added any new members in several years. Curious to see when active folks on here made the leap from the waitlist.
Ahhhh crap! Haha

I’m 2009 so if 2006 hasn’t made it yet. It’s not happening for me anytime soon.
Screaming Eagle allocations are passed on through wills from parent to child.

That is a very special kind of inheritance.

This thread has made me sign up for Ultramarine and SQN. See you in 9 years!

Does Ceritas have a wait? I have been buying for a few years now and want to feel special.
