I keep saying I will cut back. In a way I did, but no0t in number of wineries. I cut back on bottles per purchase. Have to start somewhere.

I look at the list over and over, trying to decide where to cut back, and have no success. The wines and the people are too good. If it was just the wines I think I would have more success cutting back. There are four case(+) purchases left on the list. Those will go back to 6-9 next time around.

I don’t have that many to begin with (although it feels like a lot), but several of my purchases this time around were split with some friends, so that will be my excuse:

It only feels like a lot because I’m trying really hard to buy more wine from places other than California, but I end up blowing my budget on mailer purchases.
We’ve cut back a lot on mailing list purchases. This Spring, we were down to:
Rhys (full allocation + 2 magnums from the futures offer – this one I struggle paring back)
Rivers Marie (just 6 bottles this time)
Williams Selyem (just 5 bottles)
Rochioli (4 bottles of Estate Pinot)
Peay (just 1 Syrah and 4 Cep Rosés)
Ridge Monte Bello (2 mags and 2 750s)
That’s well less than half what we purchased last Spring. In the fall we’ll also purchase from Bedrock again, but that’s the only other list we’re maintaining. I don’t think we want to cut any of these, but I’m strongly leaning toward sharing our allocations going forward. We’re also resisting signing up for anything new.

This is very close to where I’m heading. For the first time, this year looks like we’ll buy more foreign wine than domestic wine. I’ve been loading up on Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, Muscadet, Chinon, and Chablis, in addition to a few red Burgundies and lots of Barolo. Going forward, I don’t want to drop off my remaining domestic lists, but I’m hoping to start sharing them.
