Wish I'd spotted the comments on the 2017 Sonoma Zin before this weekend - popped one and it was a tough drink. Obviously the bones are there but it needs a good sleep for sure.

09 Three Birds very fine last night. Sadly, the steaks I overcooked were not.

2017 SC Syrah. Super young but already enjoyable. Will definitely reward additional cellar time so I will try to lose track of my other bottle for a few years.

2013 Limerick Lane Zinfandel.

Solid but not my favorite Carlisle. Medium + bodied with Raspberry and red fruit on the palate and plenty of acidity, but slightly flat on the mid-palate and a bit of heat on the finish. Better/more integrated day 2, so I'd say hold for a year or two for maximum enjoyment.

My last bottle of 16 P.O.R. Zin This was gorgeous even from a pop and pour and is developing very well. A wine that would be impossible not to like.

Wanted a flavorful, young bottle to go with a spicy cauliflower soup and some sprouted bread last night. Pulled the 13 Dupratt and gave it two hours in decanter.

Wait 5 more years or plan a way longer decanting. Best glass was by far the last.

Had a 14' Palisades PS Friday. Opened it in early afternoon and it was singing by night time.

We had a 15' Montafi Ranch Saturday and I don't think it was ready to be drinking yet. Still too young for my tastes.

2014 Carlisle Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

Interesting bottle, a bit disappointing.

On day 1, very strong tart taste, almost overpowering. I though it tasted faintly corked. On day 2, recovered a bit but still tarty but any perceived corked taste was gone. On day 3, seemed a bit normal, if somewhat bland and uninteresting. I can't recall a bottle that changed so much over three days. I found one note on CT that was similar to mine describing the tart taste but not the corky taste. First off bottle of all the Carlisle's I've had.

Been sipping on the remnants of the 2013 Palisades from Saturday. It's a good wine, yet a big wine so after a glass, I had to recork it and revisit tomorrow. That wine probably can last on the kitchen counter for a week without falling apart.

Nice! I need to get my hands on one of those. The 2012 Bedrock version was probably my favorite of the vintage so far - would love to see what Mike O did with the grapes that year.

Popped a 2015 Esola two days ago....it was muted on day one. Put a repour on, day two it was a it more forthcoming but I'm not sure I even liked it more than day one. Maybe an off bottle?

Had an '08 Dry Creek Syrah last night. WOW!

2008 Carlisle Syrah Dry Creek Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley (9/1/2019)
This is my first bottle of this delicious Syrah. Drank with slow cooker pot roast. The color was very inky. This mature Syrah was well balanced and concentrated with loads of fruit, licorice, herbs and earth. Absolutely loved it and happy to have a few more in the cellar. Drink or hold. (95 pts.)

2015 Papera-bright red fruit with a fair amount of acidity. Short finish. A little more balanced on day two.

11 Sonoma Co. Zin - just shaking my head, this is my early drinking go to Carlisle yet this was so alive and fresh after 8 years. As this bottle was stolen from my dads cellar (I'll make it up to him - trust me) but I need to find a way not to drink my stash of these so quickly after release, is there a Carlisle support group I can attend? :)

I know I am an outlier but I prefer Carlisle zins 5-10 years from vintage and usually keep a few bottles past 10 with good results. In my experience age replaces some of the primary fruitiness with a more elegant flavor profile.

Just popped a 2014 Two Acres. Poured a bit in a glass to start the slow-ox. Immediately it has fragrant floral nose and a complex red fruited profile with a clean finish. This is one of the most open Carlisle wines I’ve experienced right after PnP.

Saturday had a 2011 Martinelli Road and Saitone Ranch both amazing and no need to wait. The Saitone Ranch had a great old school zin taste from all the mixed blacks (Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, and Petit Bouschet)

It was in a great spot my man! I'd say it's just starting to enter a prime drinking window that should last for a long while (prob 5 to 8 years for my taste).

Still hanging onto that 2010 for when you finally get your ass out to AZ!! ;)

Man, this Mancini fruit is good.
  • 2017 Carlisle Zinfandel Mancini Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/16/2019)
I'll join the passion that Neras posted in his previous note, too. The bottle for my note here was opened on Saturday morning, and it's now Monday afternoon. We had so much left that I have just been working through it the past few days. The bouquet on this stuff leaps out of the stem. Bramble, floral, reminding me of the aromas that come from a barrel sample, just a joy to take in. The palate starts with crisper red fruits like cranberry and maybe some black cherry, with the latter giving the wine a juicy note. And even after 2 full days open, there is structure remaining here, too. I really do like the Mancini vineyard and like the 2016 that wowed me last year for similar red fruits and structure with acid, the 2017 is not far off from that same profile, which tells me I need to keep buying it. Delicious wine.

The 2010 Three Birds is in a good place right now. Medium bodied and almost Pinot-like. Holding its fruit with some floral notes and a touch of spice. Tannins are integrated. Very enjoyable. Drink them up!

2006 Two Acres. Drink up if you have it, was a bit past peak, and a bit simplistic on the sweeter and low acid side.

Also just finished off two perfect 2010 and 2011 CP whites.
