Yes, I think we all have one sole bottle. It was great, solid smoky profile, drank smoothly with no youth or excess tannins in the way of enjoyment. Drank over 1-2 days and remained consistent. Drink away!Steve Gautier wrote: ↑December 27th, 2020, 5:18 pmHow was the 2008 Kick Ranch? I have been eyeing up my lone bottle.

Opened the 2018 Nervo yesterday. Eight hours of decanting was absolutely necessary. After that it was stellar.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
Question for the Bedrock faithful:
if you wanted to introduce someone to Bedrock Wine Co using a recent vintage (18 or 19) for them to drink soon to give them a good idea of the style of wine, what would you choose? Ive had some good young Evanghelos but I was curious what other suggestions people have. I'd prefer not OVZ.

Disagree. Yes it’s good very young but it tends to be a different wine than many of the others.Albert R wrote: ↑January 4th, 2021, 5:36 pmMattstolz wrote: ↑January 4th, 2021, 5:27 pm Question for the Bedrock faithful:

I thought about the Bedrock Heritage but I would not touch an 18 or 19 now as these need at least 5 years IMO. Also Bedrock makes a lot of different styles therefore it’s hard to say one.Brian S t o t t e r wrote: ↑January 4th, 2021, 6:10 pmDisagree. I picked up some ‘14 bedrock heritage last order, so that could be great opportunity to get some with bottle age for introduction.

Another vote for Evangelho. It’s relatively accessible early on, reliably delicious, both aromatically and texturally interesting, and along with Bedrock Heritage and OVZ, the cuvée I see most often at retail.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
Another strong vote for Dolinsek here. IMHO it is without a doubt the single Vineyard offering that drinks the best early on almost every vintage. Mixed Blacks would be a close second for me, but I feel like Dolinsek is more representative of the Bedrock style.Mattstolz wrote: ↑January 4th, 2021, 6:25 pmthis was my original thought, because, I mean... its Bedrock heritage. but its typically one of the Heritage wines that I feel like could use the most time. Evangelho also seems to drink pretty well a bit earlier than other offerings....but its such an outlier to me in regards to the flavor that I wouldn't suggest that one being the bar in which you judge all of Morgan's wines. Take that with a grain of salt though as I've mentioned before that I'm not the biggest fan of Evengelho (although the 15 I tried a few months back was easily the best one I've ever had).
I also agree that if you're looking for a wine that best encapsulates the Bedrock style, that Bedrock Vineyard is the way to go. My favorite offering for sure. They need a lot of time though, so decant heavily if you go that route.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
Opened the 2019 Bien Nacido Chardonnay. I'm not nearly as versed in Morgan's whites as I am his reds, but this is pretty tasty and quite mineral-driven as noted in Morgan's tasting note. Just a touch of reduction with underripe pineapple, green apple, and lime zest. You can really taste the warmth of the vintage in the wine.

The 2018 OVZ is rocking on PnP right now. Beautiful raspberry fruit and good acidity to frame it. Still has some noticeable tannins but they are pleasant rather than rough. Wish I had gotten more of this than just a few bottles...

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
I had the ‘18 and ‘19 Pato on back to back nights. I love Pato every since they came out in ‘17. I think it rivals the Bedrock Heritage in complexity and can be consumed early without losing any of the layers.
The ‘17 and ‘18 had such an extraordinary blend of licorice, tobacco and red fruits, but leaning more savory, almost cab like. The ‘19 while having some of those notes comes across more like a Zin. A bit sweeter, without being sweet. Still very good, just a tad different than the earlier renditions.

I really need to open a Pato. Like you said, you've been raving about that wine since the 17 vintage and I've still yet to pop one. Will look to remedy that soon.Michael Martin wrote: ↑January 7th, 2021, 6:23 am I had the ‘18 and ‘19 Pato on back to back nights. I love Pato every since they came out in ‘17. Am I allowed to say Wilde Farm Bedrock? 2015. Love this wine and after being open for five hours I think it’s as good a bottle as I’ve had. Pretty sure it would be unplaceable to me blind. A little bit California fruit, a little bit Loire cab franc, maybe some stemmy beaujolais? I think it’s completely delightful.

I bought nearly a case of that wine, trusting the vineyard and the winemaker. Every bottle has been a struggle.Dave H. wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 4:43 pm Am I allowed to say Wilde Farm Bedrock? 2015. Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
It’s easily my favorite WF wine and the only one I like enough to repurchase. My taste buds may just be weird but it’s squarely on the pleasurable side of eccentric for me.D@vid Bu3ker wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 4:48 pmI bought nearly a case of that wine, trusting the vineyard and the winemaker. Never had the ‘15, but I’ve had two bottles of the ‘17 Wilde Farm Bedrock in the last 8 weeks, and both were delicious.

- 2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Oakville Farmhouse - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (1/10/2021)
Notes from Day 2. Tobacco, cedar, graphite, cassis and black currant greet the nose. I would say it screams Oakville but someone else stole that line.
Earthy black raspberry, spice, layered, great depth and balance. Chalky tart finish, more spice. On par with every other vintage I’ve tasted, meaning it’s freaking awesome. Still lots of room to evolve and soften but being able to pull the different nuances of a young wine is half the fun for me. My other bottle gets stashed in the growing vertical.

How was it on day 1? Guessing fairly tight (hence the day 2 note), yeah?

Day 1 was very enjoyable but I could tell there was a lot to still uncoil. I was correct too!Rich Brown wrote: ↑January 10th, 2021, 7:03 pm

2019 Old Vine Zinfandel. Maybe a little less expressive on the nose than my last bottle but good juice as always.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
Drinking '14 Evangelho Heritage tonight...such pretty, pure boysenberry fruit, with black pepper, and light meat and smoke notes. Softening up nicely with a couple of hours of air, this doesn't have a ton of tannin, but I still think it will be more complex and supple in 2-3 years.

2015 Under the Mountain...such a different heritage. Darker fruited than expected. Nice with a long decant.

2012 Lorenzo's. This has become a bit more savory since the last time I had it, with the Petite Sirah shining through. Still a great nose and absolutley delicious, but also a little tannic on the finish. Honestly reminded me a bit of the 09 with the meaty/structure, but more approachable. I think this wine will be long-lived, but not as long as the 09.

Re: What Bedrock wine are you drinking tonight?
We went 2012 Bedrock too last night, the Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon. Grilled marinated Bavette steaks with broccoli for a nice Saturday dinner.
I decanted half the bottle a few hours and left the rest open to air.
Wine is very interesting and highlighted by terrific mouthfeel. Both the nose and taste seem a melange rather than dominated by any single typical characteristic. One thing this isn’t is Napa Cabernet.
I have other 750 ml bottles and a magnum of this wine. I’m not even sure when I’ll revisit ‘em. I’m not really sure where this wine is on its aging curve. Tannins are present now but not obtrusive.

Appreciate this note my friend! Daughters birth-year so I've been holding onto the 12 Kamen cabs. I missed out on the maggies though somehow! #JellyGlenn L e v i n e wrote: ↑January 17th, 2021, 8:05 am We went 2012 Bedrock too last night, the Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon.
