Obama and Xi Jinping drinking wine

Wouldn’t have advised Obama to drink white wine. Scotch, beer, or red wine. But not white, especially when the other guy is drinking red.

LOL! I’m a fan of Obama’s politics but this picture (as a wine geek newbie) does make me cringe. And the way he holds it… Ughhh. It’s like XI is looking at him and thinking “what a noob”

I’m lost. What’s wrong with drinking white wine? And he’s holding his glass exactly the way I hold mine.

Obama looks fine, he is drinking Spottswoode sauvignon blanc in the right Riedel stem.

You’re not a “snooty wine geek.” There’s no problem drinking white wine here. However, the president should know better, or his people should have instructed him on proper behavior…to avoid pics like this.

President Obama should drink what he enjoys. If they served Chinese food I’m going white too, no matter how many reprobates think I’m a fag.

Nothing wrong with liking white wine, nothing wrong with drinking it–especially with Chinese food. But in politics so much is about image, and this image isn’t good.

Holding it incorrectly, yet in a practical manner…hmmmm.

Xi is probably thinking why is he holding it by the bowl when he should hold it by the stem?

I can only say I hold my glass by the bottom of the bowl, almost exactly as Obama is doing. I don’t buy that there is a right way or wrong way to hold a glass of wine - whatever someone is comfortable with is fine by me.

Xi is probably thinking “I wonder if the Lafite in my glass is real or fake”

If there’s no wrong way to hold a wine glass, then perhaps no wrong way to hold a fork? Holding by the bowl is just as bad as shoveling your food, IMO.

If you hold the glass by the bowl, why have wine glasses with stems? Or do you use stemless at home?

I’m not saying that to comment on Obama, it’s just a question for Alan.
