2008 Louis Roederer Champagne Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne (11/5/2014)
Is the 2008 the best vintage since 1996, as some have suggested? Too soon to tell IMO. The 2002 Dom Ruinart we drank easily beat out the 2008 Roederer in this taste off because the DR was more complex and ready to drink. However, the Louis Roederer was quite respectable, if little predictable. It exhibited bracing, youthful notes of marzipan, bread dough, green apple, and yellow apple in this showing. Also shows nice structure that bodes well for future aging. Based upon this very, very bottle, I am optimistic about vintage. (90 pts.)
