2009 Di Majo Norante Aglianico Molise Contado Riserva (outstanding QPR as always)
2005 Schiavenza Barolo Broglio (close to peak, excellent)
2008 Domaine Saint Gayan Châteauneuf-du-Pape (nicely aged and not overbearing in spite of 15% ABV)
1999 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pajé (nicely softened but still very much alive; not much tertiary aromas though)
2014 Jacob's Creek/Orlando Riesling Steingarten (austere and structured but a bit inexpressive; perhaps too young)
2010 Domini Veneti Valpolicella Classico Superiore Verjago (a good wine with the fun partly spoiled by too much alcohol, 15,5%)
2006 Castello di Neive Barbaresco Santo Stefano Albesani di Neive (at peak in spite of its relative youth, outstanding)
2013 Guido Porro Barbera d'Alba Vigna S. Caterina (pure and "raw" Barbera at its best)
2009 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montefico (quite good without reaching any really prominent heights)
2014 Domaine Mittnacht Freres Riesling Esprit libre (a rather simple but charming Alsace Riesling; nearly "natural" with very little sulfur added)

Hi, Nathan. It showed good typicity and a classic character. Not as stylish as the accompanying 2004 Haut-Bailly; but that's beside the point. In my view, the Bahans started out nicer than the Haut-Bailly; but, as the evening wore on, the latter blossomed while the former seemed to fade.

Best,

the 04 les carmes haut brion is also a personal fave

2015 Julian Haart Goldtropfchen Kabinett - tasty, just not as intense as Schubertslay
1996 Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon - ready and very very good
1985 Jadot Corton Pougets - excellent and will last forever
2015 Julian Haart Schubertslay Kabinett - Yum! But more like a Spatlese
1998 Angerville Taillepieds - not ready but good materials
2015 Julian Haart Schubertslay Spatlese - excellent and should rival Schaefer GD Spatlese
2015 Willi Schaefer GD Kabinett - nice, better showing than previous bottle
1993 Robert Chevillon Vaucrains - not corked! Lovely but was expecting more
1975 Haut Brion - very HB and no hurry to drink this, after 40 yrs, hard edges are gone
1989 Magdelaine - Yum! Great showing but yet to reach pleateau

Jayson,
Probably as good as it's going to be, and good at that. It pales to '96 and '99, that I've had, but a good drink. And drink up unless you just like so see where old wines go...

The Greek wines are an aberration as we cooked a Greek dinner with two other couples last night. Tours is my top Rhone producer by bottles and Guillemot my top Burgundy. We've had a lot of Navarro since visiting this summer.
“Aberration” - in what sense? Not familiar with Skouras but the Sigalas is pretty good.

There's something deceptively joyful about the unpretentious Metras Printemps. One of my favs and easy to overlook because of its weight/style. Not sure Julie has picked up his je ne sais quoi...yet. She's still young (IIRC and in comparison) and I enjoy her wines.

It’s nothing about the wines, just that us drinking them is unusual. I like them.

How was this? I have one on order, and have never tasted this bottling.
It was excellent, especially after a bit of air. Savory, herbaceous red fruit. Medium bodied. Very much a wine of place. Aromatically, it was totally unique, with a depth that was hard to describe but still unquestionably Loire Cab Franc. The palate was great too but lacked the complexity of the nose. Time will likely help. It could also be the vintage, which was less than ideal.

I'll be honest - this was a less than stellar decision on our parts fairly late in the evening, so I'm not sure my take on it will be very useful. I recall it being in a fairly good place (and I'm not a huge Bea fan), but then, given my state the following morning, I probably shouldn't have been drinking it in the first place champagne.gif

In no particular order:

Pierre Moncuit Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV - Such an under the radar wine. Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in a glass, in the style I adore
2014 Moreau Naudet Chablis 1er Cru Foret - At a restaurant in NYC, still a baby, opened up in 3 hours. Love the tension in 2014 whites.
2014 Duroche Gevery Champ - Pretty closed, not as open as it was late last year.
2015 Ravines argetsinger vineyard Dry Riesling - Stone fruit, great depth of fruit and balance. Best American Riesling?
2016 Ignios Origines Artifice Tinto - Perhaps the discovery of the year, this is Ghislaine Barthod in Canary islands. Looks like Chambolle, smells like Chambolle (with a hint of sour cherry), incredible length and purity.
2015 Envinate Taganan Blanco - John Gilman is not off in comparing this wines texture to coche-dury. Reductive, incredible minerality, saline and a finish that's never ending.
2011 d'Angerville Volnay Champans - For those who skip off vintages or complain about 2011, give this a try!
2007 Vilmart coeur de cuvee - nothing to say that hasn't already been said.
2003 Lopez de heredia vina tondonia blanco reserva - though the attention is all about the reds, their whites are the special gems. Truly spectacular wine, the texture of this wine is so unique.
2016 Au Bon Climat PN - After a long day of hiking in Canadian rockies, enjoyed it looking at the sunset over the mountains. Nothing complex. Just a lovely lovely drink.
