Pierre made great wines in 2009. In fact, he makes great wines in most vintages IMO.

1989 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers
2015 Thibault Liger-Belair Bourgogne Les Grands Chaillots
Favorite: Faiveley Cazetiers (perhaps cheating with a mini vertical)
Tier II: 2004 Mauro (great value for $50!), 2008 Jadot Clos St. Jacques (slightly more cranberry, but has a stony/earthiness I like)
Tier III: 2001 Suduiraut (1st was too petrol, this one was much better), 2002 Courcel (was better with beef), 2005 Beaux Freres (elegant strawberry), 2012 Cappellano (not as good as 2011)
Misses/Disappointment: Both Scavinos were on the oaky/clunky side. Oremus Tokaji lacked freshness
Personal lessons: Oregons with age are better than I expected, but Burgundy for the win. Scavino too hit & miss with me. I can enjoy Pommards with a lot of age and right food. I find older Amarone a bit hit or miss as well.

What were your thoughts on the 2000 Las Cases? Would you prefer more age on it?Jeff Cassetta wrote: ↑December 9th, 2018, 7:01 pmIn order of most recent to past:

Rajesh, the 2000 LLC can be enjoyed now as a "young" wine, but it is about 6-8 years away from entering the zone. The 96 LLC just yesterday was still a few years away...but really special...

Re: Last 10 wines you drank. Tells us something about what you like.
Jayson,
1995 Leoville Poyferré is a typical example of the vintage. IMO the wine has still not reached the peak. My cellar is temp. controlled and the evolution of 1995 Left Bank Bordeaux is as fast as a snail. While the bouquet is already developed and "sweet" I detected some unresolved tannins in the aftertaste. I think the wine is fine and will be better in 5 years from my cellar and if I had to give a score it would be something like 91+. I think 1995 was slightly overrated when the wines came onto the market and they are an modern version of 1988. That's not bad but not outstanding either.

Explosive white pepper and floral elements that I'm told define Allemand wines. Savory and polished, this is a tremendous wine. 94pts.Yao C wrote: ↑February 10th, 2019, 1:40 pm1995 Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque

Still full of life, even quite muscular, with lots of dark fruit, aromatic bark and smoky aromas - tannins rich but melted. Didn't take notes but it was a memorable bottle. I have another '78 and a '75 in the cellar.

That aromatic bark thing is something so distinctive, don't you think? That, and I often get a very pure lavender note (but not always). Any way to bribe you to open one with me the next time I'm in London?William Kelley wrote: ↑February 12th, 2019, 3:23 amStill full of life, even quite muscular, with lots of dark fruit, aromatic bark and smoky aromas - tannins rich but melted. Re: Last 10 wines you drank. Tells us something about what you like.
The Warre's was in a more mature spot than the Dow, which showed darker fruit. The tannin profile has changed, but they haven't gone spicey yet. I enjoyed both, but I would think that both would keep for much longer and that the Warre's is more complete right now.
ITB-ish.

It just happened to be one of the more impressive blocks of 10 wines in my history, since the most recent four (HB, Remoissenet, Mascarello and D'Oliveiras) were all consumed Saturday night at a dinner.Jayson Cohen wrote: ↑February 11th, 2019, 10:59 amThat’s a nice set!Doug Hein wrote: ↑February 10th, 2019, 8:55 pm1998 Château Haut-Brion

2010 Lapierre Morgon (N bottling, kind of grumpy)
2014 Birichino Bechtold Vineyard Cinsault (planted 1886 -- drink up, beginning to lose its fruit, which is what the wine offers)
2014 Bedrock Kirschenmann Vineyard
2013 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Muschelkalk (needed air)
2010 Jacques Puffeney Poulsard (drinking insanely well, but with many years to go)
2011 Belluard Gringet Les Alpes (also drinking very well, no reason to hold)
2014 Enfield Pinot Noir Antle Vineyard (blind I would have thought this was a Cote de Brouilly)
2012 l'Anglore Pierre Chaude (age didn't benefit the wine, not surprising I guess)
2013 Jean-Marc et Hughes Pavelot Savigny Peuillets
2004 Carmelo Patti Cabernet Sauvignon (not showing much the first day, a revelation the second)
