Dear Friends,

It is with great pride that we introduce you to our newest project – G.B. Crane. This project is centered around a unique eight-acre vineyard planted by legendary Napa pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane in the 1800’s. These deeply-rooted historic vines are embedded in ground that was formed over millennia as soil and gravel washed down from the Mayacamas Mountains via Sulpher Creek to the western flank of St. Helena. Dr. G.B. Crane, realizing the similarity of gravelly soil conditions to other great wine regions, was the first in the valley in 1861 to plant European varietals, including Zinfandel and later Petite Sirah, in his pioneering efforts to produce fine wines. It is with honor and proper respect that we named the winery after him and his vision.

We purchased the entire eight-acre vineyard only days before the 2012 grapes were harvested. We’re a group of friends with a common goal to preserve this piece of viticultural history and produce a wine that both represented and respected that history. Of the eight acres in production, approximately four acres of old vine Zinfandel are one of G.B. Crane’s original plantings. This four-acre block has been continuously farmed for nearly one hundred and thirty years by a number of different people. In addition to the four-acre old vine section there is also a 1.6 acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon, a 1.4 acre block of Petite Sirah, and two rows of Merlot. All of these blocks were vinified separately and aged in 100% French oak. After a year in barrel the individual wines were assessed and the blending process began. The result of this blending process is a wine that combines the vibrant yet stoic fruitiness of the Zinfandel with the power and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the Merlot, which adds a silky texture that gracefully completes the long finish.

We are very proud of this wine and the history and tradition that it represents.

This wine will be available direct only and in a select few restaurants throughout the United States.

Thank you for your consideration, we hope you enjoy the wine.

Sincerely,

Dave, Kevin, Darryl and Bryan
