TN: 2002 Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs Millésimé

  • 2002 Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs Millésimé - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne (5/16/2014)
I tend to be rather indifferent toward this producer, often finding its wines mediocre and insipid. But this 2002 vintage is an exception. The nose is redolent with green apples, white flowers, yellow grapefruit, and lemon peel. On the palate, the wine is broad and long, with good weight, cut, and balance. The only thing that’s keeping me from giving it 90 points, or more, is that, well, it’s just not very exciting. That said, it’s probably the best Delamotte I have ever tasted. I have a couple more bottles, so I will probably wait another 3 years or so before trying another bottle, just to see if it develops more complexity. (89 pts.)
