List the wine(s) on CT for which you are the only taster?

What wines have you tasted where where yours is the only TN on CT for that wine?

For me, one is 2003 Château Moulin Caresse Haut-Montravel Cent pour 100; Moulin Caresse is a small chateau just across the Dordogne from the Bordeaux appellation, and is just a few minutes from my Beaux-Parents (parents in law) who live in Pessac sur Dordogne. We picked up a few mixed cases of the 2003 − 2006 several years ago and keep most of it there but I have two bottles here in my cellar, I think we’re going to pop one some time this year. It is a blend of Merlot 60%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30%, Malbec 10%. I’ve never seen the wine in the US, Wine Searcher shows no hits for any vintages…

Graeme, I was wondering about that also, I didn’t do a search but rather noticed that I was the only taster on that wine.

Amongst the hundreds of wines you’ve tasted and you are the only taster on CT, what are a few of the most memorable and outstanding wines?

Maybe there’s a better way, but I clicked on “My Tasting Notes” then in the header above the list of notes, click “More…” choose to sort by “Count of Notes/Ascending” and did a binary search to find the last one on the list with one note.

Total 54 wines, all either tasted pre-release, or old wines that few people age, or Livermore Valley or Amador County wines. My favorite:

• 2009 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah Ancient Vine Bedrock Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (7/16/2011)
  First and foremost, it would be a crime for anyone to open one of these singular, rare magnums at this young age. Mine continues to sleep in the coldest, most inaccessible corner of my cellar.

This bottle was brought by Morgan to an event, popped and poured. Color is an inky purple-black, turning deep ruby at the edges. No detailed notes taken, but initial impression is a nice red/blue-fruited attack, followed by explosive black pepper, then a very long, lingering finish, showing barely a kiss of French oak. With air starts to turn more meaty, with smoked bacon on the midpalate. Surprisingly approachable at this young age. At the end of the day Morgan handed me the more-than-half-full mag and told me to not let it go to waste. Indeed he came to the right person!

Mag was re-corked just over half-full and let sit in my cellar for just over 24 hours, still drinking beautifully. Nose is showing dusty cherries, smoked meats, cardamom, and a hint of orange rind. Palate comes with rasberries, flowers, and continues with the peppered bacon, with a long spicy finish. Oak is subtle and well integrated. Enjoyable with spaghetti marinara. The remaining wine consumed after dinner, i.e. without food, revealed strong and building tannins on the finish. I’m surprised these weren’t at all noticeable with the pasta. The wife complained, so I grabbed some cheese and crackers to accompany the last of the wine, which brought it back to its formerly lovable self. All the more reason to give these a long sleep. All the stuffing’s there, and a fine structure to allow some long aging.

I actually had the better part of a 12r of PBR on Saturday night at a poker game at a friends house.

It’s not the best, but sometimes it’ll do.

Joel, what was the vintage on that PBR?

I have to admit that after a hot dusty day on a trail a cold American beer hits the spot better than any wine could.
