I am being affected (infected?) by the enthusiasm for Champagne on this forum, and also by the various threads pointing out the utility of half bottles in general.

Jim -

That is a really good score, I drink a boatload of this stuff in the 375 format. Not a mind-blowing wine, but extremely satisfying champagne for the price. It is a house favorite. My wife and I aren’t experts in champagne but we dig it.

Nice! I reloaded some 750's, but was shut out of the half bottles.

Since I base my annual wine budget on credit card billing cycles I've closed out 2018. Happy to report I was down 10% from 2017!

To celebrate both that and so far surviving a thoroughly miserable 2018 (hope I didn't just jinx myself) I just spent too much on a mixed case of wine as a Hanukkah present to myself.

6x 1999 Musar
1x 1955 Gonzalez Byass Sherry
1x 1969 Patriarch Vosne Romanee
1x 1966 Sandeman Port
1x 1966 Warre Port
1x 1977 Smith Woodhouse Port
1x 1962 Chateau Giscours
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.

Table & Vine Champagne "gala" yesterday, so a mixed case of Champagnes. All NV stuff I tasted and liked that will be consumed over the course of the next year or two. Bereche, Gaston Chiquet and a couple of others.

Just curious... why 2017 over past vintages? Why do you feel the need to "ask" for them either?

I relapsed.

I'm giving myself a pass.

I bought two -- only two!! -- bottles of the 2008 Jacquesson Rosé Champagne Dizy Terres Rouges envoyer offered yesterday. We love this wine, tried for the first time at Les Crayeres, it has always been tough to find in the states, and from what I understand Jacquesson no longer makes it (winesearcher shows a grand total of 2 vintages available in three shops nationwide). When we drank our last bottle this summer, we lamented its disappearance.

So when this popped up, I could not resist. Back on the wagon!

BTW, if you haven't tried it, and you ever see it, I highly recommend it. It is darker, and more wine-ish, than any other rose we drink. Tart strawberries, lively acidity, and a perfect foil for food.

Since you are the evil mastermind that turned me on to Bara and Ruinart, I will keep my eyes out for this bottling, though likely never will see it up here. Thanks Neal.

Super cool, mine just came in this week. Love this stuff!

Ordered today, in total disregard of my storage thread, some 2017 Clos de la Roilette Cuvee Tardive and the 2016 Griffe du Marquis bottling.

When I was starting out as a litigator, and there didn’t seem to be a straightforward procedural way to get something done that needed to be done, my mentor taught me to subscribe to the Nike principle: Just Do It.

Storage challenges are like the Federal Rules. They don’t stop you from doing what needs to be done. Like buying Coudert.

Lol. My mentor did, too. I would frequently tell him there is no rule to support doing what you want to do. He would just say, “just title the motion for whatever relief you need”. He would go argue it and usually win. I was in awe.

Did well at December zauction at Zachys, picked up a bunch of lots below low estimate *made my bid, no one bid me up on a handful of auctions*
12 bottles of cdp clos du mont olivet 94 for under 400 with hammer/tax/protection fee
12 bottles Ferreira 75 for under 680 with hammer/tax/protection fee
1 bottle Gould Campbell 77 under 75 with hammer/tax/protection fee
as well as other finds here and there
In retail the score of the weekend was dominus 94 in 1.5 liters for under 400 per bottle. (boought out stores inventory)

Did not have your luck buying anything below lot minimum at Zachy, but had some success. I had a list of things were below low bids at outset, but on day of they all spiked. Did pick up a couple Bertheau '13 Bonne Mares at historical auction price (25% below release or so), a couple Vietti 2010 Ravera (15% below past auction, and right around CT cost averages), and couple Clos Lambrays 2005 MSD 1er (25% below past auctions and slightly below release price). Could have got mildly attractive pricing on 2013 Giacosa Rabaja but someone was intent to drive pricing up there. Debated going into 2004 Monprivato as well (have had decent experiences with other 2004 vintages) but decided to go for the 2010 Ravera instead for ultimately the same $/bottle. Paid up for a couple Courcel 2005 Pommard that I'm excited to drink at some point in the future.

Four halves of 1940 Margaux at £32 a pop.
Also some halves of Belgrave 1945 and Lachesnaye 1928.
And a case of Lafarge's Beaune Les Aigrots 2008.
And some spirits: Frapin 1948 (BBR label) and some Chartreuse Jeune from the 1950s.
And, while typing, my inbox pinged with a 1962 Clos de Vougeot from Bouchard Aine & Fils (this is going to be one of those months...).
