Liquid Farm time

Recently found the Golden Slope in a local wine store and purchased several bottles. Just placed my 1st allocation order, can't wait to try the other chards. Hoping LF can combine my BD purchase with the allocation order.

What's on the "No Fly" List

Virginia pinot noir - in general, not too good.

Scherrer

This article is spot on. Fred and Judi are some of the nicest people on the planet and they make great wine also. I had an added bonus at last Novembers open house when I got to talk (aka listen) with Fred's dad Ed about his wine growing days in Alexander Valley - great experience.

Apsara spring mailer

I'll also be ordering a mixed case of each. Had the pleasure of tasting with Robin Akhurst last fall (thanks to Brian for the rec) and absolutely enjoyed the whole experience. Great guy, great wine. He's doing some amazing things with those syrah grapes, just wish he was offering up his 100% whole c...

A Couple Board Favorites and One that Should Be (Scherrer, Lanessan, Broc)

And while we're on the Scherrer band wagon, his syrahs and cabs can be phenomenal. For our mortgage burning party we did magnums of his '04, '05 and '06 cabs, everyone enjoyed every last drop.

TN: 2013 Idlewild Carignan Testa Vineyard (USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County)

As promised here's my TN: Very pleasant Carignane from Testa in Mendocino. There's crushed black cherry and a hit alcohol on the nose (even though it's only 13.7% abv). More black cherry on the tongue along with candied fig, the slightest hint of black licorice, lively acidity, medium fine tannins a...

Is it time to say farewell to Linne Calodo?

Visited and tasted LC back in '08 and was impressed with their stuff but didn't join. We belong to two Paso wine clubs, Adelaida and Tablas Creek. Adelaida is a decent cellar defender, Tablas has wine and prices that run the gamut. If your "other producer" isn't Tablas, I'd suggest giving them a look.

I don't mind being the guinea pig, I'll report back later and then we'll all have one more data point.

Have a bottle of the '10 testa ranch carignane that we purchased after tasting with Maria. There aren't any drink by dates in CT. Thinking this will last a good while but does anyone have an educated guess on when to pop?

In 5 sentences or less, give us your wine autobiography

Phase 1 - cheap, sweet, drunk, hangover headaches Phase 2 - inexpensive, oaky, jammy, drunk Phase 3 - introduced to balance, acidity, gaining experience, expanding the palate, not necessary to get blasted to enjoy Phase 4 - starting to gain a better appreciation for "the good stuff", traveling on wi...

Some Sunday fodder: Your highest rated or most memorable bottle of domestic Pinot Noir EVER

Haven't had much experience with older vintage pinot but plan to soon. I enjoy pinot with good acidity, medium to fine tannin and fresh red fruit. My dislike is any that have what I call that taste of baseball card bubblegum (not a technical term but if you've had some you know what I'm talking abou...

Please forgive me for I too have sinned.

2010 Graton Ridge Bacigalupi Vnyd - just a fantastic expression of the grape.

Will be on the lookout for that Turley and Limerick Lane.

+2 Hoage, you'll find some great Syrah there. Also for something a bit different check out Tolo and Kiamie. Both are small production wineries with tasting rooms right next to each other on Adelaida Rd.

what are your top 5 Oregon wines?

We've made a couple of trips to Portland area to visit our son and have incorporated some wine weekends. This list has some of my favorite Pinot and Chardonnay but Kramer and Domaine Meriwether produce some excellent bubbles.

Golfing Scotland

Just got back from a golf outing on the west side but have been to the east side twice. Besides the Old course, by far the best all around experience was Royal Aberdeen. Great links course, loads of history (check out the "black ball" box in one of their showcases) and a fair test of your skills. Ha...
