Had both these wines during a recent trip to wine country and they are excellent and quite distinct from one another, might make for an interesting group tasting. Maybe Bettina could chime in here and add some color on the backstory of why these two wines were produced in 2010. I think I know, but w...

What inspires you to go to a wine Tasting Room, and what inspires you to return or suggest it?

1) Having a decent array of tastes available. I don't mind at all if I need to pay for a "reserve tasting," but I would like to be able to find a new tasting room and be able to get a good feel for their range of wines. 2) I am happy to discuss the club benefits as part of the tasting room chat, bu...

This is a timely thread. I just got back from a trip to Napa and Roy was generous enough to attempt to lineup a tasting, but couldn't ultimately get it scheduled, so he graciously volunteered to drop a bottle of the 2013 by a restaurant one night, Torc. This puzzles me, with ratings of 96,95 (Parker) and 93 (VM) for the Cab, Bettina and DB4, I'm just not seeing this. In fact I haven't been able to go there for the last few years. Nevertheless, they continue to raise prices each year and these wines are not selling through despite the emails that cl...

Laurel Glen Cab. Otherwise this is a country/price combo I try to avoid. Not saying there are not good candidates, but $50 USD gets you some very fine juice from other locations around the globe as others have mentioned. I will give this a big +1. Sadly, I had to pass on this one, first time in a number of years. It just represents such a disproportionate amount of my cellar. This is due, in my opinion, to the dichotomy between their pricing as daily drinkers and the reality that they aren't. You need to age these babies.

The Kap 2012 Grand Vin is an absolutely amazing bottle of wine and the real acquisition cost is around $300, so not cheap, but the quality at Kapcsandy has only peers and not many of them. The style is so refreshing compared to the cult cabs of California.

1. No leaks 2. The wine actually remains preserved over long periods, which I've found spotty with the Coravin (especially after the halfway empty point) 3. Far better flow pressure 4. In addition to stoppers, Pungo has a plug device that can replace the cork and accepts the stopper -- which is gre...

I drank my first bottle of wine in Italy when I was in my 30's, it was a Gaja Barbaresco, don't recall the vintage, but it was exquisite.
The next 20 years and way too much money have been spent trying, mostly without success, to recapture that experience.
