New York City Restaurants

Maybe The Milling Room will get their act together, but if I were a betting person, I wouldn't put serious money on that bet. First, they told us that they chose the name because the room is so large, they imagined people milling about. What? Second, a chef of the stature of Scott Bryan, is aware he...

I give The Milling Room no more than a 6 month lifespan. Went recently on a Monday night (don't know if Scott B. was there or not, but hey, it shouldn't be dramatically different if he's not there, right?) and it was about as mediocre as can be. Space is weird, too....about as large as a TGI Friday'...

Lunch In NYC: Marea, Jean George or Le Bernardin?

To me, hands down the clear winner here is Jean Georges for lunch. Forget the fixed price menu "deal" if they are still doing it--order off the regular menu and you will be thrilled. I believe JG is the best restaurant in NYC right now. I said this recently to my friend Gael Greene, and she replied,...

So sorry to see Takashi close; I always enjoyed it there. I found Spiagga "good." Its pedigree from Levy Restaurants was a bit too apparent, IMHO. I can be succinct, as an American who has visited Bordeaux properties on more than a dozen occasions.

Europeans spit; Americans do not.

The expectation is you will spit, but there is no pressure forcing you. But if you're with a group of Europeans, you'll probably be the only one not doing so.

For me, a key value in CT is to look at more recent reviews of older wines I'm thinking of opening. And although the "numbers" aren't what I so much go by, I look at the trends both in ratings and comments and that gives me a good sense on how the wine is evolving.
