Re: TN: 1994 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate

I agree that this is a beautiful wine. Had a bottle (not mine, but purchased on release) this summer and ours was very nice, even "lush", with a minimal amount of air. I didn't get back to it after the intial glass, but did hear from two of the tasters that it started to fade more quickly than expec...

All three of these are very good, available under $20 (in fact, I've purchased them all under $15 within the last year), and have been consistent over the past few vintages:

I'm with Charlie. It's a young wine, I wouldn't worry about the CA to NY roundtrip and would be happy to order from a reputable retailer. For an older wine or something I intended to cellar for many years, I'd rather pay the premium to get it direct from the winery.

Thanks for the update, Tyler. I'm still giving a couple more years to my '04s, although I expect them to be quite nice in another few years. Sounds like the '06 is following suit. Love Larkmead cabs. I had this in the spring with a 2+ hour decant and found it more approachable than your bottle, but with many fine years ahead of it. Great nose on these.

The '02 is drinking very well at the moment, if you can find it.
