Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?

This seems like a good thread for my first WB post: enjoyed a 2014 Reserve de la Comtesse on Friday night. Loved it – obviously young, flash decanted and it just got better after each glass. Dug it so much for the price ($39), I went back a couple days later to buy more but they were out. Ah well. ...

Haven’t had the ‘96, but it sounds lovely, Randy. A ‘94 opened at age 20 was a really gorgeous wine. Another bottle opened this spring, at age 25, was good but starting to show its age a bit. I have a ‘99 in the cellar to open on my oldest son’s 21st birthday next summer. Recent notes suggest it sho...

I had the 1970 version at Bern’s two years ago and it was fantastic. I have a ‘72 in the cellar but, given the reputation of the vintage, I been thinking of it as more of a sentimental bottle (it’s my birth year) than something I’d ever open.

In reading the reviews, Galloni thought all of the 2016 wines from Poggio Scalette were less impressive than usual. I think tasting the wine from bottle twice is giving it a fair shot and I’m glad to see he posted the review and score that he felt was appropriate. If he thought both bottles were fla...

Me, too. My wife is currently not drinking so, if I open a bottle, it lasts me 2-3 days. I don’t save bottles much longer than that, but find that the Repour seems to preserve better than a blast of argon or a vacu-vin over that period of time.
