Some of the smaller regions in the Southern Rhone Valley are excellent, Vacqueyras, Cote du Ventoux, Luberon and the poorman's CDP: Gigondas. Great food as well. We didn’t have a bad meal in Avignon.
Be warned most of the menu’s are prix fixe. So there are usually three courses, though some will let you choose two.

Had a really bad meal at Meat and Cheese in Aspen. Bad waiter and bad food. I also had a top 3 worst ever meal at La Tour in Vail...on my Birthday 50th Birthday of all days. It was made up for by a great meal the next night at Ludwigs. I think with towns like these you are at the mercy of the season...

I’ll note that food in all three towns is somewhat underwhelming.

Our favorite restaurant in the state is in Grand Junction: 626 on Rood. We also like the Pullman in Glenwood Springs, The Mercantile in Denver and Bin 707 also in Grand Junction.

What if I take an Uber? Pro-rata the Uber cost across the wines based on cost or evenly split?

You won’t get any argument from me. Gigondas is a tremendous QPR region generally. I’ve had very good $15-$20 bottles and outstanding $35 bottles. 2016 is a vintage to seek out as well.
