If theyre on riddling racks, doesnt that mean theyre still on the lees? Dont the bottles have to rest 6 mo or so post disgorgement before they are released?

Sweetness in Pol Roger

Ive been drinking some 02 and 08s (Brut and BdB) and cant help but notice the level of sweetness in the youngsters that I don't get in other wines of the same vintages. Is that the house style? I know Pol Rogers are known to age very gracefully over the decades and wondering if this sweetness/richne...

To continue on this, I drank a bottle of their 2012 Les Noirots from Chambolle this past summer at a restaurant. The elegance and depth of fruit and overall balance of the wine is remarkable. I am in the hunt to try more of their crus as the style is right on for me.

Never understand why people dont give wines like these the time they deserve. My advice is to pop and pour and spend a few hours enjoying its metamorphosis instead of trying to catch it at a more precise moment. Enjoy!

Word on the street is there will be an 08 Krug released but very very small quantities. They will be bottled only in Magnum and packaged in previously unsold (last seasons) Louis Vuitton handbags.

Re: 23,000 Leflaive GC and Pucelles bottles pre 2014 reconditioned at the Domaine...

A couple thoughts here. How could the Domain process refunds? Would it be like a class action, where every single person who consumed a bottle of Leflaive comes out of the wood work and winds up with $12 each? Hard to prove your loss, is my point. Secondly, id bet the Domain is going to begin some l...

Re: 2008 Salon

Oh, and the pricing on the 08 Salon is silly. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if its announced LP group gets gobbled up by a luxury conglomerate in the coming months and they are actually buying these cases from the marketplace as a ploy to improve valuation. 8,000 cases at $8,000 is 64 balloons. Would...

Re: 2008 Salon

Very surprised at the claim there wont be any 2008 Krug. Very hard for me to believe that they would elect to conserve capital but still make a 164 with '08 base, and no vintage at all, even thought the vintage sells for 2x the mv. Conceptually, if the decision was about $, their decision is not ali...

Doubtful we will ever see an end to this phenomenon. Until people stop trying to out-douche each other, uneducated luxury-seekers will continue to believe that price (alone) is indicative of quality.

I would avoid Leoville Las Cases, a magnum was pretty dried out 10 +years ago. Agree 100% with Beaucastel and LdH. Also, if you want to try something unique and fantastic, try the 1981 Barbeito Verdelho. I think Rare Wine Co may have. My favorite young Madeira.

Question about Burgundy Vineyards

I wonder if over time we will see most of the Grand Cru vineyards sold or leased to the producers who achieve the highest prices for their wines. You can buy a Chambertin, for example, on release for $150, or one for $1,000. I realize the price that the domaine achieves is far less than what the mar...

Although it has been discussed before, some old Riojas can age gracefully even though they are grocery store level wines. One that comes to mind is Campo Viejo. Can easily be found for less than $10.
