Ive just now taken notice of old Fontanafreddas after a remarkable 1964 La Grand anatta. I popped and poured, drank over two hours. Last glass was the most balanced and most glorious.

I find it hard to believe that there will be any upward momentum whatsoever on this wine for a long, long, time. Tons were made, and right behind it there are more vintages that are sure to hit the market soon. Fancy restaurants are feeling economic pain and liquidating their cellars and are (most l...

Basically every bottle of Merchant bottled old bordeaux and Burgundy. Berry Bros, Vandermeulen, D. Sanders, etc... Ive had a bunch and maybe think its a sanitary issue in the bottling process. Most of them smell bad.

100% Cab, I believe in '61. I would guess harvest too early or maceration issues. The '61 Ch. Margaux I had was also underwhelming when I had it 10 yrs or so ago.

Ive been drinking some 02 and 08s (Brut and BdB) and cant help but notice the level of sweetness in the youngsters that I don't get in other wines of the same vintages. Is that the house style? To continue on this, I drank a bottle of their 2012 Les Noirots from Chambolle this past summer at a restaurant. The elegance and depth of fruit and overall balance of the wine is remarkable. I am in the hunt to try more of their crus as the style is right on for me.

A couple thoughts here. How could the Domain process refunds? Would it be like a class action, where every single person who consumed a bottle of Leflaive comes out of the wood work and winds up with $12 each? Hard to prove your loss, is my point. Secondly, id bet the Domain is going to begin some l...

Oh, and the pricing on the 08 Salon is silly. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if its announced LP group gets gobbled up by a luxury conglomerate in the coming months and they are actually buying these cases from the marketplace as a ploy to improve valuation. 8,000 cases at $8,000 is 64 balloons. Would...

Very surprised at the claim there wont be any 2008 Krug. Very hard for me to believe that they would elect to conserve capital but still make a 164 with '08 base, and no vintage at all, even thought the vintage sells for 2x the mv. Conceptually, if the decision was about $, their decision is not ali...

Doubtful we will ever see an end to this phenomenon. Until people stop trying to out-douche each other, uneducated luxury-seekers will continue to believe that price (alone) is indicative of quality.
