Really interesting question put forth. Looking through my inventory, I own a few bottles each of Bertagna, Tapenot Merme and Domaine St Martin... Bought very inexpensively, clearly the market doesn't seem to care for them - as they were $60-70 for a mixture of Beze, Chambertin, Charmes and Bonne Mar...

Hmmm. I paid $575 for Chambertin and Beze from a Chicago merchant who told me it was his cost plus 10%...

A bit of a break in trust as I bought from them through 06 and 07 when they needed buyers...

Riedel has a tulip shaped stem for cognac. I ended up with a set from buying Tesseron 53 (which had one glasss per bottle in a gift pack).

I opened a bottle about a week ago and agree with most of the comments above, and while I'm not expert enough to know why it's not showing well today, it was not showing well.

I've never had a bottle of Leroy that wasn't stellar - the time spent in the vineyards, the sorting table, etc. is evident in the product!

A bottle of 99 LaTache at restaurant Nana (Dallas) for $400 in 2003. Yes it was infanticide, but it was also extraordinary!

Have you considered champagne? One of my top 5 wines of all time is a 1985 Bollinger VVF - ancient, pre-phylloxera vines, 100% Pinot Noir. I've not tasted anything like it - production is around 250-300 cases...
