Echoing Steve, Broadway by Amar is a terrific place. Really good cocktail program too. A few miles north on Coast Highway is Mastro's Ocean Club, which is recommended for steaks and seafood. The clientele can be a little plastic, but then again, that's the area.

My strategy — one that admittedly works about 50% of the time — is to put in the first bid (if possible) as a deterrent, to let others know that there is a bidder who is interested and who may be willing to outbid them. Then I wait and snipe at the end.
