Likely Wine Theft- What would you do?

Short Story : We suspect our cleaning lady whom we have had for almost 20 years of taking wine from our cellar. What would you do and how would you confront her? Long Story : So this one is eating away at my wife and I. Last month I noticed some gaps where my 2005 Bordeaux are stored in a section o...

Re: James Suckling: Great Wines of Italy

I missed this year but have been to 4 or so previously in NYC. I love the event. Well worth it, IMO.

What were they pouring for the Brunellos? 2014 was a mess but I wonder if any were shown.

Jayson,
Yes, it is best to wait for a sale there as there regular prices are relatively high but they do have some great sales. I paid $90 for the Vigna del Sorbo (regularly $110).

Zachy's 2015 Tuscan Tasting 9/22/18

Went to a complimentary tasting at Zachy's on Saturday featuring a good selection of 2015 Tuscans. Some really good wines were poured with a nice salumi/cheese/bread accompaniment (added to the wines' performance). Although some could do with more time in bottle, there was not a dud in the group. Gr...

2015 Carlisle Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard Popped 'n poured. A glass stainer. Inviting nose. Rich velvety blackberries and dark cherries. Great ripe juicy fruit in balance and with supportive weight as well as some spiciness on the mid-palate and into finish. Love how this coats the palate at it ...

Re: Blind tasting 14 Brunellos + 4 other wines in the home of a gracious host

What a good experience. I would love to compare/contrast Brunello's from different vintages and producers. Continuing to build my Brunello's, so who knows, maybe it will be time for a BCDP (Brunello Cellar Diminishment Party) in a few years.

Give me your screaming good under $20 red or white every day wine

La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi In various vintages, such as 2011, this is an excellent quality wine. I actually prefer it to the higher cuvees which have a much more significant signature of American oak. This lower price bottling has less new oak. +1 Had the 2011 last night. The 2010 was outstanding. ...

Also, you may want to explore some 2015 Rossos as I have found many to be delicious. Not as complex as Brunello of course, but very good and very promising for the 2015 Brunello vintage.

Kent, Excellent vintage and producer. Glad to hear your bottle was showing well. I think 2004 is right up there with 2006 and just behind 2010 for Brunelli produced in the last 17 years. I enjoyed a bottle of 2004 La Serena, an Uccelliera, as well as an Il Castellare within the last year and all wer...

Which Carlisle are you drinking?

Just got my winter allocation from Carlisle in the mail. A variety pack of 2016 zins. For someone who is a relative newbie to their wines, which can I try now with some slow ox/decanting vs. cellar for later? I've been on their list for a few years now and can attest, generally, that the Zins/Syrah...

2017 Bordeaux En Primeur

I'll be passing entirely on En Primeur due to many reasons above and the fact that I bought in to 20105 & 2016 futures. May skip the vintage entirely overall as well as there is enough Bordeaux in cellar now. I can wait for the next big opportunity.

Yes, it was crowded @ NYC event. I've gone for 3 (or 4?) years at that (larger) venue and it was the most packed yet. Two years ago there was a big storm coming that kept the event almost empty by comparison (fun for public, not so much for attendees). I started in the Brunello section which were mo...

I had the Barolo Barbera "ah-ha!" moment there with Voerzio a few years ago. I believe they were the 2004 Roberto Voerzio Barolo Riserva 10 anni Fossati Case Nere and the 2010 Roberto Voerzio Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata.

Went last yr, great event for the amount of wines and the price. Hit the top ones first, Bruno Giacossa, Vorezio, Valdicava as the empty out quick. Don't forget the Italian whites, and explore other regions. My takeaway from last year was how much I loved Etna, appealed to my burgundy palate. Enjoy...

I try to bring something from the cellar as often as possible, even when traveling. I just can't stomach most restaurant's mark-up and/or lack of ready to drink bottles. It does amaze me though how often I call ahead and people don't know what I mean by "corkage".
