We ended up at Taylors and it hit the spot. We shared a spread of oysters, crab and prawns paired with a tasty chard from Walter Scott. Also had a nice dinner at Spinasse (although not as good as previous visits) and Mamnoon.

We do it a bunch of different ways. One of our favorites is grilled bread, avocado smear once the bread has cooled a little, roasted golden beets for a little sweetness and nice flaky salt. Usually pair with gruner, champ or sancerre.

Glenn/Charlie - You might be correct. However I am skeptical that a non-Japanese place that costs $550 per person with tax and tip without wine would survive in LA. Other than Urasawa there is simply no precedence for this in LA. I rarely get out of Brooklyn Fare with out spending $1000 per person....

Not sure if this response is exactly to the intent of the original post but I’m not a big fan of “tasting” wine. For example if you gave me the option of tasting small pours of 10 vintages of DRC vs drinking 1 great bottle of DRC over dinner I would pick the later pretty much every time.
