As for Salmon, I have yet to find a red pairing that works as well or better than a white or rose so we go white or rose 100% of the time with salmon.

We got into wine through food and while we really enjoy wine, the food comes for first for us so we pick out what we want to eat and then try to find a wine that will compliment. We get bored quickly so like to have a diverse set of wines on hand at all times to match a variety of dishes and styles....

Just spent a few days in SF. Lunch at Angler was really good. Fresh seafood cooked over fire with pretty much flawless execution. Highlights were the scallops, fire squid and salt and pepper bass. We ended up at Taylors and it hit the spot. We shared a spread of oysters, crab and prawns paired with a tasty chard from Walter Scott. Also had a nice dinner at Spinasse (although not as good as previous visits) and Mamnoon.

We do it a bunch of different ways. One of our favorites is grilled bread, avocado smear once the bread has cooled a little, roasted golden beets for a little sweetness and nice flaky salt. Usually pair with gruner, champ or sancerre.
