Thanks for the great notes Don! When these wines were first released there were a lot of negative notes about Pichon Lalande. Suggesting herbaceous green olive notes. It seems this has resolved with time?

Several years ago I dropped off the Scarecrow list. They admonished me that by not ordering I would be placed at the end of the list. I guess I am back up. I wonder if by passing on the 2016 vintage they will put me back on the merry go round.

If you are willing to travel a bit the Union Des Grand Cru's tasting in Las Vegas is on 1/26. There are about 70 wineries participating. Amazing experience for a new to Bordeaux taster.

They claim that the 55 degree angle leaves 90+ percent of sediment in the shoulder. It looks like a really cool gadget, It's the two grand that is the deal breaker for me.

Don't take kids wine tasting. The kids hate it, the parents hate it, tasting room staff really hate it. Instead go Kayaking in Tomales Bay or tide pooling in Bolinas. Those are "Family friendly" events. Just my humble opinion.

We had a bottle of 96 earlier this week at my Favorite restaurant in SF - La Folie. It needed a vigorous decant and an hour in the decanter to come around. Still was drinking young. A great wine.

K&L had a blow out on the wines five years ago with really low prices. I bought several cases and tried several bottles early to check on them. (there was talk that they were on sale because they were damaged, K&L I think would not do that) They were good so I'm sitting on the rest.
