Re: 2014 Roy Piper Cabernet?

Hey! The 14 is a bit more structured than some of my wines, but I don't think it would be any more so in a mag. I think mags last longer because the volume to oxygen ingress over time, is less. As super small amounts of air get into a 750ml, it has a larger effect than the same cork size allowing i...

Re: Rhys sparkling wine offer July 16th

I'm struggling with this. I am a fan of Rhys, especially their chardonnay, but it's tough to dive into $79 California sparkling wine, without even so much as a Frank Murray tasting note out somewhere on the internets. This will probably follow the well-worn decision path of "can't decide, can't dec...

With all that said, the futures allocation is by far the largest allocation with each year's production. This is common when sparkling wineis lose gas pressure. It may be dead. Laws of physics/pressure ? Yes. The normal pressure in a Champagne bottle is 5 - 6 atmospheres (70 - 90 psi). The corks are designed to resist that pressure, the loss of which makes removing them by hand near impossible unless ...

Looked up Chubb and AIG. Both seem to be about 1/2% per year. So a $100,000 cellar is $500/yr. Not cheap.
This will vary based on the value of the insured cellar. For a stand-alone policy, insurers will have a minimum premium, which is usually a couple hundred dollars.
