Very interested in the rose (in addition to the cabs, of course)! I don't think I have ever had a rose made by Mike Smith. We go through a lot of rose year round here in Florida. I think you'll like it. I'm not the biggest rosé drinker but the fullness of the flavor, almost a meaty-ness for a rosé ...

The OG wines I've tried were disappointing. I honestly don't believe the de Negoce wines have gotten much of a fair hearing as yet. Our wine group gathered five 2018 Wine Access Private Labels and one de Negoce (OG 50) to gauge the relative quality and dollar value we would place on these wines when tasting blind. As a control we mixed a 2014 regular bottling of Chateau Montelena. While it would have been better to choose a 2018...

Without knowing anything about the recipient's preferences (will he be drinking it with his wife/girlfriend?), I'm going to cast a vote for a Pinot Noir. Nice note.
Last evening I drank a 2009 Oddero Barolo Rocche di Castiglione and it was wonderful. Aerated and double decanted 90 minutes before serving. Brilliant full-bodied wine with rich cherry fruit. Enjoyable soft tannins giving it some heft. Long savory finish. Just a great wine.
Cheers!

Note it will be important to discern your style preference within the Bordeaux universe (Pauillac versus Pomerol for example).
