Dukes in St James. Perfect location and lovely hotel. Restaurants:

La Trompette - out in chiswick but definitely worth it.
Chez Bruce - out in wandsworth but definitely worth it.
Both do corkage.

Everything now apart from pycm and champagne. Used to buy fairly large amounts of Bordeaux, Burgundy and German Riesling from top tier producers.

Finally, someone mentioned chassagne montrachet! Not just ramonet though, every one is very red fruited in my experience. Oldest and most red fruited I’ve had was a stunning 59 CM villages red.

I only buy pycm. I’m not intentionally ageing them for 10+ years but I’m not worried if I don’t happen to get round to them until then. Eg I’ve enjoyed the 07 corton charlemagne very recently and it was superb with none of my 6 bottles showing any pox and all capable of going a lot longer.

Dolomites. Cortina, val gardena etc etc. There’s a reason it’s a world heritage site. Breathtaking scenery, incredible food (and wine!), great hiking/biking and lots more besides. Could easily combine with lake garda or como.

Just got back from a trip that included a heli tour of zion and bryce. Utterly spectacular, Zion even more so than Bryce for us. Imagine both would be hot as hell in September though.

Carcassonne is definitely worth a visit. Only an hour from Toulouse on the way to Barca. Cadaques north of Barca near Girona is worth seeing. Dali museum there. Usually on emirates from dubai but sometimes private with client and sometimes drove to bahrain and flew out BA. All reports I’ve heard re Saudia/SAA are avoid at all costs.

I disagree with the comments above re the UK weighting towards cheap french wine. I would expect the uk to move up the table if it was just for wine over $50 a bottle. London remains a huge centre for trading and storing of high end wine offshore for asian owners. That’s also unlikely to change post...
