Re: Grassl Glass reviews/evals [merged]

I really like the Grassl 1855 and the Cru.
I have broken two, and Chris has replaced them for the $10 shipping fee.
I highly recommend both Grassl glasses and Chris.
I have enough for immediate family now.
When I need more glasses in the future, I will buy more Grassl.

Re: Grassl Wine Glasses, and a few Zaltos if you need them

Just wanted to pass along a great experience.
I purchased some of the Grassl 1855 glasses. They are great.
One broke however, but Chris replaced as promised for $10 shipping. Glass came within a week of order!
Makes me wish I got some of the Cru…

I would add a different definition of "Winesplaining." Explaining purchases of wine to your significant other. This happens in 2 different scenarios: 1) when a large shipment of wine arrives in the fall or spring. This can be "winesplained" with "this is a whole years worth of wine being shipped whe...

TN: Arcadian Tasting

Maybe there was some heat damage to the pinots? Arcadian Pinots in general to me are some of the most Burgundian wines of California. I have never had one I would mistake for Syrah, let alone Aussie Syrah. On the other hand, tasted blind, I would be more likely to mistake Arcadian Syrah for a riper ...

Shipping question

Hi -- quick poll I had a wine order arrive this Monday, via ups ground. I do not wish to mention the winery, but the bottles are over $100. I am concerned that every day of shipment, the temperatures were subfreezing, and the wine likely sat in a ups warehouse over the weekend. I know I could have s...

Why the expense of wine in restaurants and wine bars?

There is a place in Atlanta called Brooklyn cafe that sells wine at essentially retail. I think Shafer 1.5 was $5 less than the winery. Seed Restaurant in east Cobb area of Atlanta also has good wine at close to retail.

Fantastic Wine - 1984 Groth Cabernet

Good review.
I had a 98 Groth Cab (regular bottling) about a year ago that was still drinking very well.
A 2005 Groth Reserve I had in 2009 was one of the best young Cali cabs I've had.

Donelan Offering

I tasted these recently. I was particularly impressed with the Walker Vine Hill, Obsidian, and Richards (in ascending order and price). I think they are worth the price. It seems syrah prices are creeping back up around California, with Saxum now at $85, Alban higher(but can't recall how much) and S...

I was a little concerned I hadn't gotten my offer yet, so emailed today. Turns out it was truly lost in the mail!

5 bottles from a UPS store in san francisco, 2 day air to Atlanta was around $100. Others may subsidize shipping. I imagine you pay one way or another, although cheaper shipping is nice.

Yellow BBQ Sauce

Dry? Of course not. Properly cooked BBQ is not dry. If it needs sauce, it wasn't properly cooked. Vinegar-pepper is occasionally added at table, as Joe H. attests, but that is personal preference rather than necessity. Fascinating. Are hot dogs eaten plain as well? No. With chili, cheese, mustard a...

Skybar vs. Vinotemp Preservation Unit?

I have a one bottle skybar. It definitely has a cool gadget factor. I found it best to set the temperature at the lowest setting, regardless of the wine. If I kept a Cabernet at 55, it started to turn on day 2 or 3. On a colder setting, it lasts at least 5 days. When I use a $10 vacuvin and store th...

Anyone have postive experience with these wines aging? The 2003 Pax Castelli-Knight Ranch is one of the best wines I have had. I last had it in 2007. While 4 years after release does not qualify for long term aging, it is certainly evidence that they don't always fall apart a few years after releas...
