Buying is based on offers. Seasons are not a factor. For the most part, consumption is fairly even with the exception of the 4th quarter. Holidays and gatherings increase consumption that quarter.

I too live in the DFW area and almost never buy wine locally. Prices are too high. Selections focust mostly on high volume wines. Pogo's has been mentioned and it is one of the few places that have a more interesting inventory but they are proud they do. And Whataburger is our go to fast food burger...

We often find the determining factors are time and place. When traveling, we have often had table wines that seemed to taste out of their leagues. Buy a bottle and open it at another time in another place and we often wonder "what were we thinking?"

Duck carnitas at our house or on a pizza. For pizza, do you throw the duck on and just roast with the pizza? Or sear quickly and throw on top after the pizza has cooked? Seems like either might work for a thin-crust pizza, but I think for thick crust, only the latter method would have good results....

Along with Vine Vault, Vinum 55 also handles cross country moves. Some of us have had experience them their off-site storage and/or winery direct shipping they also do. They have been very professional with direct shipments and I expect they would be the same with moves.

We visited Walla Walla and the Willamette in late March. Our two favorite restaurants from that trip were the Joel Palmer House in Dayton and Cuvée Restaurant, in Carlton. Cuvée Restaurant was a first time visit for us. Joel Palmer House was a revisit.

It could be worse. You could have a Eurocave. A single filter costs $45 and a pack of 4 costs $150. But given the value of the wine stored in a cabinet, I do not hesitate to buy them to protect my investment.

Napa became too expensive for us to enjoy the experience a few years ago. The cost of accommodations, food, tastings and the traffic and crowds drove us away.
