Opus One order scam

I've been getting quite a few online orders this month for 2 bottles of Opus One where the billing and delivery addresses are in different states. In all but one case, the credit card was refused due to zip code mismatch. One order did go through and FedEx could not deliver and it is being sent back...

There has to be dozens of examples of where this might be violated - for instance, I love Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St Helena and they pour many of their own wines. Any restrictions just don't make sense to me.

How did you start your retail wine business?

Agree with all of the advice in this thread. You do not get ITB to make lots of money - it has to be something you love. My concept has a tasting bar with limited food menu along with retail and online. The bar makes the most margin and allows the other aspects of the business to thrive. You need a ...

Worth mentioning is that the market in which Amazing Grapes is (OC, CA) is one of the most competitive price wise on the west coast. Our shop is only 1/2 mile from one of the largest wine stores in southern California (one of the most competitive wine markets in the US.) We can't over charge or we would have no business. Re: Economics of the wine business?

Wine is a low margin commodity from a retail standpoint. Average margin is probably 25%. In competitive markets it can often be lower. Higher at convenience stores. The small wine shop has the worst scenario: highest cost of goods due to buying in small quantities (compared to big stores and grocery...

As a tiny wine shop/bar who opened in January of 2008, I quickly learned about the demand for Rom. Chard. Grapevine (the CA distributor) wouldn't allocate any for me. I bought some Rom Cab to try and indicate good will. I've asked several times over the past 20 months and been refused every time. Th...
