Re: Kerin O'Keefe on Barolo 2016

In my market, Bartolo Mascarello went from $187 for 2013 to $189 for 2014 to $245 for 2015. And the cellar door price is still under 70 euro. 2015 G. Conterno wines were released around $175 in Northern Italy this last fall, and $275+ in the US. Tell us again about the ceiling on price inflation on...

I believe this. I can see in the restaurants. Millennials gravitate much more towards cocktails and beer. I think they are much more affordable. Plus there is lees of a tendency for them to be attracted to high profile items and the subsequent pursuit.

I still get it and read every issue. They have some fun articles and producer profiles. Also I must say, since the Suck and whatever the old Napa guy have retired, the reviews are much more sane.

Is 2017 looking better than 2018 for reds ?
consensus is 18 is better than 17 for reds. Opposite for whites. Of course this depends on your preferences.

What the hell has happened here. Really no discussion of 19's and very little of 18 too. A sign ?

The 66 was one of the best wines I've ever had. I consider this the best "value" GC around. In that the potential for a profound wine can be had for under $1K.

FWIW I've found Neal's notes quite out of line with my tastes for whites, whereas Tanzer's are a lot closer and therefore more reliable for me. I also have the sense Neal is generally less consistent at reading very young Burgundy than Tanzer, though of course that's a dark art where everyone makes...
