Sunday looks like a cold rainy day. Thought fireplace fire season was over. I'll have to bring in some firewood! I saw the man who handles my spray program for me drive out the driveway - he must be checking to see what they will be doing. First and only spray was sulfur, cuprous oxide, and sylcoat.

Did you try Solbar at Solage in Calistoga? Also try Brasswood in St. Helena. They are very liberal with winemakers and regulars...not sure about "tourists" but worth a shot.

Isn't the classic accumulated knowledge that Cab shows "green" aromas when picked too early? Taken together with the whole Napa-style of winemaking and more superextraction, I think there has been perhaps an exaggerated skew towards ripeness in this particular variety. Not sure it's entir...

The only fruit I drop is fruit that is still pink and green when most other clusters have finished veraison. My aim is, I assume like everyone else's, to bring all fruit to the same degree of "ripeness" at the same time.

Thanks for including my Black Cat 2010. You nailed its characteristics, and its overall readiness to drink. 2012 Black Cat is right behind it, as well as the 2011 (whose vintage the critics, as we know, clobbered in general).

My valley floor Calistoga (EMH) came back from ETS with 3.1 guaiacol and 1.0 4-meth. They said I was good to go, particularly since the reading came from wine in barrel (all at least once-used). Have since put on a couple of new barrels and, for me, it is business as usual.

My "neighborhood" certainly bucks the trend. Driving down my street yesterday I saw plenty of standing water in vineyards down near Constellation's 14 acres and Kenefick and Frediani. Some also along Tubbs Lane. Microclimates are a strange thing.
