the ny state liquor authority is temporarily allowing restaurants to sell wine for off-premise consumption which is fantastic. there is an ocean of great wine sitting all over nyc in restaurant basements. if you're so inclined, reach out to them and buy wine. this is a huge help to them.

The most nonsensical corkage story I experienced was at EMP years ago under the Danny Meyer regime, and when Daniel Humm was cooking there. At the time, you were allowed to bring X number of bottles, after which you had to pay an additional "dedicated sommelier fee." Maybe $300? Don't recall exactl...

I am not so sure about that. A lot of the top Burgundies were bought by speculators ; not sure they can hold on to it forever, and almost certainly they don’t plan to drink it by the case. lol - hard no. i think the most you can hope for is that off vintages sell for full retail instead of some level of "crazy" market price. but actual decreases cannot happen.
