Leonetti Cab, Pride Merlot, and Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay were my gateway wines in the early 2000’s. They’re all long gone, so I’ll never know if the rambunctious fruit settled down or the oak integrated.

Great notes as usual. The 2009 Champagne vintage is under-rated and under-appreciated IMHO. I wish I had bought more, but I was awaiting the later release of the '08s. The '08s are phenomenal, but the 2009's are no slackers and are more giving at the moment.

2004 Taittinger Comtes
This has gained a lot of density since my last bottle a few years ago. Not as sweet and viscous as the '06, but more balanced and poised. Equal parts white fruit and citrus, brioche and the light nutty notes of 15 years of age. This was one of my favorite bottles of the year.

2+2 for me. Worth the risk given their commitment to quality and knowledge of both Domestic and European wines, and the fact that R Peters consulted. I jumped blindly into the MacDonald and Ultramarine mailings, and those worked out just fine.
