If you haven't had any of John's wines, get that aged Syrah pack and never look back. Can't believe there are any left of those! the biggest news for Cabot lovers is that John's back making Syrah after three (?) years of smoke damage preventing it! One way to do it with any wine is to simply leave a glass of it sitting out for a few days to a couple weeks. You can check it each day and taste and smell the progression of the VA. 11 was an interesting year. It was very cold and very late, yet extremely low yield(1/2 ton per acre) so it all worked. Marier is on a steep south slope so it does really well in cool years. Glad the pain from graft wasn't too bad. I'm super interested in the progress they are making with gum regene...

Raining cats, dogs and pineapples in Northern California - good or bad?

It's very good for filling irrigation ponds/reservoirs and for soil moisture levels in well drained vineyards.

There is also a little know grape called Pinot Meunier in blanc de noir. Not sure how much it is grown in Champagne these days.
