i'm a fan of this wine and the cabernet franc as well. i like the fragrance and "chalkiness" in their malbecs. it was their cabernet-franc heavy prestige wines that made me seriously wonder if cab franc was capable of greater things in argentina than malbec.

luckert's basic silvaner is about $25 and is reliably excellent. i also like ostertag's VV in most vintages and is right around there as well.

My SO is a ridiculously knowledgeable wine lover, especially when it comes to Italian wines. I'll have more of the bottle, but I make sure she tries everything because she's curious and sharp. Blanc de Blancs and aged Italian wines are how I stay in good standing.

I believe most of Wiest's portfolio was absorbed by the German Wine Collection, which appears to be made up of Rudi alumni.

Gunderloch is imported by David Bowler I believe.

Last I saw Bruder Dr. Becker was brought in by Dee Vine but I don't believe that's the case any longer.

I thought the same exact thing. I remember them because I believe Lingenfelder Riesling was the first Riesling I ever had - I think maybe it was Thiese selection at the time but I'm not too sure.

i'd say yes it is a wine of special character. it ages really well in my experience. pricing can't really be debated because it's a speculator's wine now. but pialade, pignan and rayas are cut from one cloth and the des tours wines are cut from (an also excellent) other.

I'd say that roughly 50% of my collection is at least a decade from maturity. Another 30% needs 5-10 years. That said, I'd open probably 99% of them without really stressing it. At the beginning of the pandemic, I started what I called the "Winter Is Coming" philosophy of cellar management...
