Wow - thanks for sharing your notes from this impressive tasting. 2000 was the first Bordeaux vintage I bought - appreciate your thoughts...I'll keep them tucked away for a while longer.

YIKES! Really sorry to hear this, Rob. Scary and infuriating all at once. Joanne and Umberto from your place came to mine (the other StrongBox location on Orleans which is now called Chicago Northside Storage) after the sale. I'll bet they're glad they aren't there anymore. Nice people. Be careful w...

Any love for second labels here?

I built my bordeaux collection on second wines from first growths when I first started collecting wine (1998). I branched out after a few years but overall I'm still enjoying them.
Don't know much about seconds other than as they pertain to bordeaux.

Kapalua: Cane and Canoe at the Montage (down the road from the Ritz) is good as is Merriman's (a bit further down the road). I like Sansei as already noted above. They have another location in Kehei, too. Lahaina: Honu (Mala's sister restaurant and next door neighbor) is one of my favorite restauran...

Maui wine & dine picks?

Our two favorite Maui dining spots are side by side in Lahina, and are kind of holes in the wall. Honu and Mala. You can sit so close to the water you actually get splashed (it's on a harbor where they anchor the tour sailboats) and the food is awesome and, for Maui, reasonably priced. For wine, we...

We didn't do the really expensive side trips -- and we considered not doing any of them. But we went to a talk and they said "it takes five minutes to see Skagway, and we'll be there for nine hours" so we bought tickets on the train up to White Pass. It was overpriced but the scenery was beautiful....
