My favorite villages wine by far : Rougeots is power , the Batard of all villages wine . Coche sometimes holds back a few of his wines because he believes people will drink them too quickly : CC , Perrieres and... Rougeots .
I drank all my Coche 96ers , probably way too fast .

2008 Meursault Perrieres Coche and PYCM

We had these wines blind yesterday . Everybody ( 9 tasters ) preferred wine nr 1 : more focus , precision and aromatics . With very present acidity . Wine nr 2 was a very good wine but paled in comparison . We didn't know what it was and I guessed Corton Charlemagne . Wine nr 1 turned out to be the ...

Re: If Pomerol did have a classification....?

During the glory period of Pomerol ( 1940-1950ies ) , the best wines by far were Petrus , Lafleur and Vieux Chateau Certan . ( i.e. 1945 , 1947 . 1948 , 1950 etc ) . These wines are the best Bordeaux wines I ever tasted . Today , it is more difficult to differentiate because all these top Pomerols a...

Re: Rhône white wines

I love Rhone white wines . They lack acidity but can be deliciously fruity ( melon , nectarine etc ) . I think you should drink them young ( age 1 to 5 ) Andre Perret makes a wonderful Condrieu ( Chery ) , not too heavy like some of the top scoring Condrieu's . Pierre Gonnon's St Joseph blanc is won...

Re: Sweet/Dessert Wines - I Own them, but Never Open them

All wines will have lost some fruit ( not sugar ) over time , so I agree it is probably a perception that acidities increase . Older Sauternes ( 30-40+ ) have this wonderful tension between sweetness and acidities which make them very complex and much more interesting than young Sauternes .

Re: Sweet/Dessert Wines - I Own them, but Never Open them

Point well taken : you say you don’t like them and also see no upside selling them .
So the Sauternes in your cellar will age and become very different from how they taste today : acidities become more pronounced after 30-40 years .
So let’s talk again in 2040 .

Re: Sweet/Dessert Wines - I Own them, but Never Open them

And regarding food match for Sauternes : “ young “ Sauternes can be creamy and sweet but aged Sauternes has wonderful acidity matching the sweetness . For me , aged means at least 40 years old . With cheese , especially stronger ones , aged Sauternes is a much better match than red wine , imo .

Chris , I only included the wines we drank within a 10 year time frame . ( for example : a 1999 , drank in 2012 is not included in this analysis ) .
Most premoxed wines came from 2007 , followed more or less equally by 2005 , 2010 and 2008 .
