Re: Decanter vs. Aerator

I often pour inexpensive young wines through the aerator into the decanter. Sure you can funnel it back into the bottle for the next night but that assumes it's going to be good then. If it wasn't that good the first night it's unlikely to be better the second. Thank you. Your answer implies there ...

Decanter vs. Aerator

I bought a wine "aerator" on Amazon for about $10-$15 some time ago. It's a 3 piece rubber and plastic spout that you pop directly into the bottle and pour your wine through. I think it works pretty well but I'm a novice and don't know any better. Now I'm trying to learn: 1. For young reds without s...

Re: I want to sample older vintages

So here's a question that relates to the OP. Is there such a thing as a pay-to-taste tasting of fine wines? For example, 10-11 customers could pay $50-100 each to taste several different bottles of fine wine, perhaps with a theme? As a novice who would like to start a small collection, I would sign...

Re: What is Cellartracke and Why Do I Need it

If you don’t have a wine collection you don’t need your own account. If your collection is small you may not. But if you have a large collection, some sort of inventory and organization becomes important. You can do it via spreadsheet but CT offers a huge number of useful features for searching and...

Wineshops - Davis to SF, CA

Hello, This is a question about buying wine (retail) along the I-80 corridor between Davis, CA and downtown SF, CA. Can anyone recommend good wineshops between those two points? I am looking for a place with salespeople more knowledgeable than I (not a high bar) and with more variety than my local s...

Re: Wine Refrigerators

OK, I hate to ask dumb questions but this is the Wine 101 board so.... I was looking at "starter" wine fridges on Costco.com. They start at I think about $350 and hold maybe 18-20 bottles. It doesn't look like the low-end wine fridges have humidity controls. How is a low-end wine fridge different th...

What is Cellartracke and Why Do I Need it

Hi all, I'm kinda new here and new to the online wine world in general. I keep seeing references to Cellartracker here - like lots of references, like everyone uses it, it's a given. Well I'm not on it. What is Cellartracker and why do I need it? I visited their website, which pretty much assumes th...
