Re: How should a wine age???
Interesting. I prefer many wines on the older side. But I have frequently written in CT notes that a wine is ‘drinking young.’ I don’t mean to put any value on that statement either way. Usually, for me it is not a good thing, as it means the wine is not as developed as I would prefer. Sometimes, es...

I have been using these 4oz and 6 oz bottles both for organized group tasting, and for my own use with great success. A friend and I fedex overnight to each other for zoom tasting, and they really don’t get much micro-ox along the way. It is almost like pouring from a fresh bottle when they arrive....

Re: 1st taste after Covid
It took me a few months for my wine palate to get back to normal. During that time I did better with whites and sweet wines. Cabernet in particular was challenging—something was missing or distorted. But I am sure everyone’s trajectory is unique, and it was encouraging that the cab so enjoyable for ...

Re: WOTYs 2020 Edition -- and your Discovery of the Year
Despite the pandemic, I have had some of the best wines of my life this year. The one that really stands out as WOTY is a 1998 Angelus. I’m not even sure if it was my highest scoring wine, but it it etched in my memory forever as a perfect wine experience with great company.
Re: books ?
I was just given Stalin’s Wine Cellar by John Baker and Nick Place. I haven’t started it but it looks interesting. I was surprised not to have heard of it before.

Strange, my fait-main order is shipping this week to Atlanta, 2-day for $38. I have no idea why your price would be so high?

Hi Kathryn Drinker/learner/collector here, and as you can tell by my number of posts, mostly lurker! In real life, there seem to be many female wine geeks and their tastes and interests very similar to men. It always surprises me that this board can be so male oriented, or when people assume someone...

Re: Any recommended Wine Clubs for more novice drinkers?
I think Somm select is quite interesting if they are novices who are interested in learning more about wine. They also do a ‘blind six’ club for people who are studying or want to work on their blind tasting. The wines aren’t a bargain, but good quality classic varieties and a fun way to learn.

Re: Ordering wine for delivery across the US?
I planned something similar—on a smaller scale but had European participants too. Even within the US I had to use different retailers (eg K&L for California and Total Wine for Georgia). It was a huge pain and I was very limited on choices and in one case one of the groups had a different vintage...

Use the vintage needle Clean the needle Don’t keep bottles you care about more than a few weeks before opening Not more than a day or two for special wines Stand upright for a few minutes after to let the cork reseal Wax is good too! Try to leave 2/3 of bottle, definitely more than half. I have pret...

The ‘17 cab was by far the best Napa cab of the vintage for me. Haven’t even tried my ‘16s yet. Can’t wait for these ‘18’s.

So glad to hear the fruit is back Buzz... there is nothing worse than tasting that acid and knowing there is something more that you are missing!
I still have some taste glitches every once in awhile, so don’t be surprised if it takes longer to get to 100%

Re: Got the RONA...no smell, no taste, no WINE!
So sorry you had to go through this and glad that the ‘worst’ is over. I went through this in March with moderate illness that I recovered from in a few weeks and lingering anosmia. It was so upsetting, yet I felt guilty worry about such a mild symptom when others were suffering and dying. And it wa...

Re: Gilman's new issue - essay on serving wine
I would love to hear more thoughts on decanting older Nebbiolo (1975, 1985). I have a bias for a longer decant for most wines, but feel out of my depth with some of these older, potentially more fragile wines.
