Re: The Bourbon Thread

I find OF 1920 Prohibition Style to be fairly unique, particularly the finish. It is one of my current favorites, along with McKenna 10 yr. and Willett 4 yr. Rye (which is also very unique).

Shout out to a few SBC and Paso winemakers

Jeff, So awesome seeing 'the gang' once again, and so happy that we originally connected via the ERP Boards way back in the day! Though some things have changed, your group's enthusiasm for food and wine had not wained one iota!!! It was great pouring for you - and just catching up. Thanks for the ...

Shout out to a few SBC and Paso winemakers

I just returned from another annual trip to the Santa Barbara County area and wanted to give a shout out to the winemakers that were kind enough to share their time and wines with us: James Sparks - he poured his Kings Carey and the Liquid Farms wines. First time meeting with him and we had a great ...

Great timing on this offer - I've been needing to replace some old Speiglau bordeaux glasses and needed some new everyday pinot glasses - looks like these will cover everything.

Planning your visit to Sonoma "County"? This might help.

It looks like we'll be in Sonoma for spell this coming May and will be doing a fair bit of tastings. If one buys a few bottles here and there, what is the ideal way to get those back across the country? Fedex in a wine mailer? Specialized wine shipper companies? I've seen that wine check bag but no...

Planning your visit to Sonoma "County"? This might help.

Just returned from a trip to (mostly) Sonoma Valley. The information here was a great help in planning the trip. A few notes: Dining: Barndiva requires a party of 6 or more to order the prix fix, which offered a choice of steak or chicken - no thanks for $79. So we went to Dry Creek Kitchen instead ...

If it is the same as the club shipments I think it is around $8-9/bottle, which seems to be fairly typical these days.

Has Anyone Been Drinking BerserkerDay Wines Lately?

Opened a bottle of last years Franny Beck Willamette pinot offering. Started off deep, dark and somewhat brooding for a pinot but opened up nicely with air after about an hour. The wife gave it a "yum", which equates to a 94+. It's just a baby and excellent QPR.

Agree with all the above except I place the wines in the very good to excellent range. The best CA pinots to my palate. Price escalation and inflated shipping costs do bug me though. I had the opportunity to taste this wine this past Saturday night. I tried the wine upon opening and then had a taste about 3 hours later and it had not changed at all. Over the past few days I opened my last 2006 Cardiac Hill Syrah and 2008 Montafi Zin. Both are in a very good place and neither showed any signs of fading. The zin could have used an hour or two of air, but it was a last minute decision to open a bottle.

A few years ago, on the recommendation of Paul Luckin, we stopped in their then new Bump tasting room after tasting at Sojourn. Everyone in our group liked the wines - the wines were all very reasonably priced. At the time I thought the chardonnay was a fantastic value.
