There is also in my view the very real possibility that some fraudulent bottles may actually harm the drinker when consumed. You have no idea what is really in there, how it was handled, if unpleasant organisms grow in there, etc. etc....

Re: Percent holding on cellartracker

I think it is only relevant for "cult + high-end + USA", else the percentages will probably always be below 1%. E.g.: Dom Perignon is relatively high-end, produces 4-5M bottles per year, and you can find on average far less than half a percent on Cellar Tracker. The same percentages seem to hold for...

I haven't for a long time, but just decided that I wanted to take a little risk again. So I bought a case of 2016 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru. Will be checking in on them starting at around 2022-2024. Fingers crossed. If they are OK, I'll keep them over the next 2 decades.

Thoughts on Pairing: 1927 Rieussec

If you are open to experiment, you could consider to pair it with caramelized thin strips of bacon with small drops of honey and roasted seseme seeds. In any case, don't over-chill the wine. Around 14-16 degrees C should be perfect.

Enjoy!!!

I see hopeful signs of 2011/2012 coming onto the market at much more reasonable prices. In The Netherlands, this is what I just picked up, all in EUR (prices in brackets were en-primeur as I was offered them back in 2013/2014, glad I passed): 2012 Haut Brion: 335 per (512) 2012 Lynch Bages: 89 per (...

I would have expected that a new and untested $100 wine spends at least $10 per bottle on marketing in all its forms (advertisement, promotions, tastings, etc....).

I would also expect that 30(+)% is a reasonable internal gross margin.

If you travel in The Netherlands, you are required by law to have identification on you at all times. Why did you repeatedly tell many people of wines that "were dropped off at the post office", then later told them that the wines "would be shipped today", then later told them that "bottling was finished", then later that "bottling was in progress", then later that "bottling would start soon"?
