Graft Wines - Mixed Bag Deal!

Berserker Fans! With my other projects consuming so much of my time, we've made the decision to let Graft take a breather for a while. So this will be our last BerserkerDay for the foreseeable future. I thought I'd offer up some of the bits and pieces of stuff that we have left. This is a fun mix! W...

LIQUID FARM: Earth & Mineral Driven Chardonnay & Rosé - Superbowl FOUR-ty Nine!

While I wished the 49ers would have been able to run some button-hook or go routes, I'll just have to settle for the safety of my couch and watch the Patriots try some of their SLANTS. I'll take a slant from you guys too. Looking forward to trying your wine.

Graft Wines BerserkerDay Deal

Graft Wines produces small amounts of Grenache from the biodynamically-farmed Dark Horse Vineyard in the Ukiah hills and Viognier from Saralee's Vineyard in Russian River Valley. We have a simple goal – to show the pretty side of these varieties. We so often see these wines as over-extracted caricat...

I will say, that the Graft Rose is head-and-shoulders above any rose I've tried.

Opinions wanted re:DIAM and like corks

I've used DIAM as well as Rich Xiberta Micro-Agglom and have had no complaints with either (other than getting them back into the bottle!). I've used these on mostly white or more early-drinking reds but I've found them to be a reliable (no TCA) and effective closure. Is it a more reductive closure ...

Hey All,

Somehow this conversation slipped by me. The Dolans are great to work with and Dark Horse vineyard is stunning - we've been really happy to work with them. Andrew, let's connect. I'd love to try some of the other Dark Horse wines.

Favorite breathable bung

Ferm-Rites are my favorite for barrels. They breathe the easiest, have a low profile and never blow. But they are no good in kegs. Rich Xirberta's nipple style bungs are best for kegs as they are longer and grip the tri-clover fitting on the kegs well and breathe well. They are good for barrels too ...

You can get Everclear/Diesel up here in Santa Rosa at Bottle Barn and other liquor stores. Otherwise Winesecrets sells "High Proof" in bulk. You'll need to cut it with water to get it to the recommended 70%.

Sheldon,

Since PAA is a pretty strong oxidizer, I presume you spray PAA and rinse with water if following immediately with wine?

I'm curious to hear what people are using in their wineries as spot sanitizers (for spraying on valves, hose ends before connecting, etc). I've seen people fill their spray bottles with a bunch of different products and am curious what everyone's thoughts are. I'm most interested in sanitizers that ...

Re: Employing a Canadian citizen in the winery...

Any reason you aren't going the J-1 Visa route? Those are pretty simple and you get a year on them. CAEP is the organization that many of the wineries I'm familiar with have used and they take care of all of the paperwork, etc (for a small fee, of course).

For wine and must movement... Waukeshas are great but expensive. Can move wine/must quickly and relatively gently. Yamada air pumps are great for general wine movement. Super gentle, shuts off when you close valves, easy to maintain, light, etc, etc. Flexible impeller pumps are also good. Cheaper th...

Kristen, We had a similar issue last year but with the newer non-DE BecoDisc filters. They very quickly plugged the membrane filter of the same porosity the day after going through the BecoDiscs. Re: SS thieves

The SS thieves I've seen are pretty thick, weigh a ton and with that weight are dangerous around thin stemware. The turkey baster looks like it might be a bit thinner which would be nice. But its lack of curve in the neck might be an issue depending on its length.
