I *love* the One & Only Palmilla. I'm also eager to stay at the new Montage down there. I do enjoy the towns, but we now pretty much stay on resort. The dining is good (if pricey) and it's so easy.

They're all pretty tiny except for Beaune and NSG. They also all have their charms. My strong recommendation would be to rent a bike and do it that way. Easiest way to see the towns, get deep into the vineyards, and get a good sense of the landscape. Not much better than peddling around the Cote d'Or.

1996 Veuve La Grande Dame - Very fresh and very vibrant with an energetic mousse and bright fruit. This has expanded and integrated with time, and it's really quite harmonious--if not as grand or deep as the best of the '96s. A delicious, fun wine that is in no danger of fading.

Helpful note; thanks. IMO, there are few ppl making better wines right now than Bruno Clair. An '02 BC Gevrey 'Cazetiers' -- a favorite bottling (and vineyard) of mine -- was phenomenal a few weeks back (WOTN among very stiff competition, including some C. Liger-Belair).

Good and distinctive, yes. Worth trying, yes. And the 96 is perhaps my favorite champagne ever. But in no universe does Salon “blow away” Krug or DP. in my view, Krug is much more consistent and hits just as high of highs.
