I'd pick L'Aventure based on quality of wine (and similarity of style to Saxum) alone, but I think Torrin offers a better tasting experience if you're just comparing the basic tasting at either play (although, I think Torrin's wines need to lay down longer than L'Aventure). Gino's does not currently offer BYOB (or carryout). The pizza is very good, although, it's not even the best deep dish in town.

I like Liquid Farm's Chardonnays a lot, especially for ones that, in my experience, tend to be a bit more restrained. I'm also a big fan of Lagom (Torrin) Chardonnays. They are definitely bigger and oaked, but I think they are still balanced and fresh.

Discovery of the Year: I just got seriously into wine this year, so everything's a discovery (and a lot of it is thanks to this great community), but if I had to pick one, it'd probably be the amazing versatility of Riesling.

I recently has a '98 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Eiswein (forget the vineyard and CT is going super slow) and it was stunning. It would've been great with foie.

Max Ferd Richter Veldenzer Elisenberg. The 2015 is particularly delicious. Came to say this! I've only had the 2016, but I would guess that the '15 is even better. I don't consider Max Ferd one of my favorite producers, but this wine is really great, and only about $23 or so! Some other great Kabs ...

KL does charge a buyer's premium. It's 5%. Also, a lot of the prices are lower than the lowest on Wine-Searcher or at least fair. As long as you check before you bid, you shouldn't be paying too much.

I really like all of the Epoch wines across the board (except for the rose, but I just very rarely care for rose), but the one that impressed me most when I visited in the summer was the 2103 Tempranillo Reserva Paderewski Vineyard.

I'd go with Spatlese or even Auslese Riesling depending how spicy and heavy the dish is. The sweetness should counter the heat nicely (depending on just how "angry" it is), the acidity should help cut through the oil they're frying in, and the overall fuller body of the wine should hold up well agai...
