I don't use cook books, but I do own "Borago: Coming from the South" by Rodolfo Guzman and I think it's an exceptional cook book and then some, although it would be very difficult for me to make most of the dishes in the the book.

Most places have more than just toast, avocado, oil, seasoning, etc. Other toppings include things like lox, prosciutto, 63 degree egg, pomegranate, tomatoes, caviar, etc. A really great, versatile dish.

Field Recordings Fiction 2016. Really wonderful QPR for $17 (although, I can see a lot of people here not loving it). Certainly fruit forward and substantive, but just enough balancing flavors to prevent it from being a pure fruit bomb or too simple, in my opinion; wonderful mouthfeel.

If they have somewhat reasonable corkage, I usually prefer to bring my own bottle, sometimes because they don't have what I want, but more often because I just think it's a better value. When corkage is $50 or so, I'll usually get a glass or two of something at the restaurant.

I love the spice in a quality Riesling. I usually taste ginger or sometimes gingersnap, but cinnamon would be very welcome (although maybe the my "gingersnap" is ginger/cinnamon).
