Re: JJ Prum Auslese mix case 2003-07

Updated to say I just drank the 2004 WS - *hic*
Immediate goal is to drink my way down to a 12-bottle case for easier sale, but like a hostage situation, if my 'demands aren't met' the 'hostages' will be consumed.

2004 & 2005 Leoville Barton x12 with OWC

Bought as Futures as an investment, Cellared ever since, and now need the cash (and a smaller quieter fridge). Prices match lowest on wine-searcher, even though those listings seem to either lead to dead-ends or end-bins/remainders. 2005 (WE/97, WS/96, JS/96, CG/93, RP/92+) approaching the 2025-50 d...

Re: Coq au vin

I've never made Coq au Vin and recently saw a recipe and instantly knew why I hadn't made it: you need to use a lot of wine I'd rather drink! But if this works (using something otherwise undrinkable) please update this discussion, because I would REALLY like to know. As for using $10 wines instead o...

Re: Anyone really into drinking Tea?

Yah. Good DHP is Greatness. Problem is there are different levels of it. And some label fraud etc. I’m no expert but I do know this. Imagine the vastness that is wine knowledge/world. There’s an equal vastness of tea knowledge/world. From soil. tea growing. Variety. Terrior. Service. Temp/equipment...

Re: Anyone really into drinking Tea?

The website "The English Tea Store" has pretty good deals on large bags of loose-leaf (the stuff in tea bags is not considered the best part of the leaf - more like the leftover bits). They also have sampler packs, where you can try a large variety of teas, sometimes collected into 'themes', without...

Re: Burgundy restaurants?

One other mention for those who follow you to the region, but don't yet have a place to stay: Violot-Guillemard.
It's a vinyard, so you have your breakfast by the vines. Really amazing place and great wines you won't find outside of France.

Re: Burgundy restaurants?

For casual place that gives "farm to table" new meaning (because it is ON the freaking farm!!) check out La Ruchotte: https://www.lafermedelaruchotte.com. It used to be a top-secret chowhound 'must go', but I see it's even on TripAdvisor now (but only 72 reviews, so it hasn't been 'ruined' by popula...

Re: Shocking finds at a Miami Costco today

I don't think KB should mind much - it's not like it's a 'fire sale' price, and anyone who buys it may decide they like it sufficiently to get on the KB mail list (making them a recurring client for KB), so when you think about it, they should actually actively promote placing it in the high-end sec...

Re: Official Costco Thread

Sherri: the wine selection is pretty good, and if you drove there and were disappointed, there's a Total Wine right across the street, so it wouldn't be a wasted trip to check it out. The NMB store moved from US1 to a location just behind the old one (weird, but whatever), and I think it got a littl...

Re: Official Costco Thread

Didn't see this thread and posted elsewhere, but the North Miami Beach location had Kosta Browne Russian River Valley 2016 for $80, which (to me at least) was pretty astonishing. I've seen the Dom there too, but not at the prices others are posting here (at ours it's nearly $200, I believe). There w...

Re: London / Solo Diner

There are a couple of Dishoom's in London, correct? Evidently, there are 5 in London, and they've spread outside to Manchester and Edinburgh. All addresses at http://www.dishoom.com/ Because they only take reservations for large groups, it's a good option for a solo diner, as described in the OP.

What is the KB mailing list price for the Russian River Valley these days? When it hit $70, I got off the list, and I'd like to know how the $80 Costco price compares.

Shocking finds at a Miami Costco today

I was grabbing some everyday stuff, but shocked to find bottles of Kosta Browne RRV for $80 at the North Miami location today. Also 2016 97pt Beaucastel 97pt for $74, and a 100pt port - can’t remember which one or exact price, but under $80 I think - I lost track because my mind at that point was bo...

Re: London / Solo Diner

I focus on local/regional food when I travel, and there's nothing more "London" than a Sunday Roast (with yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings), the best example of which I had at Blacklock (24 Great Windmill Street), which was also the best meal I had in my 8 days in the city at this time last y...

Re: TN: 2013 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills

As someone more recently joining the Thomas bandwagon (3 years), I think the 'reclusive/eccentric' characterization stems from the mystery/intrigue in getting on the list: no website, email (or so I thought, there actually is one, it's just not well publicized), but mail a physical address, which in...

Re: South Florida BYO (Palm Beach, Broward & Miami-Dade Counties)

I found an excellent Corkage list on a local food blog (which I also recommend), called 'the whet palette'. The Full list for Florida is at https://thewhetpalette.com/corkage-fees/ (and it's pretty up-to-date) It doesn't list all the ones I mentioned up-thread, but from her list, I like: -Alter $40 ...

I live in Aventura (half way between Miami and FLL), and always on the lookout for a corkage deal myself, so happy to share my findings (but always confirm before going, as things can change). Free corkage (warning - very rare!): -All Houston's restaurants including the one in Aventura, already ment...

Re: TN: 2013 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills

Searching the Berserker site for mentions of Thomas Pinot, I saw this. I bought a case of the 2014 and interestingly I also noted the spritz/tang (not the usual nomenclature to describe wine, but apt!). I thought this made the wine very unique and that it actually had a positive contribution towards...

This is a list posted by a wine-loving local blogger I can vouch for: https://thewhetpalette.com/2015/10/13/broward-county-favorites/ Even that list is a little old though, and I would add ETARU (which opened right in downtown FLL last year, in addition to the branch described in the link). We have several outlets of "Total Wine" that may be convenient to where you're staying, and they have a huge selection of pretty much everything, but also a premium room of French selections. I also have some French wines I'd be willing to sell a vacationing oenophile, if you want to PM me for a list.

Just visited and thought I'd bump this for any that follow. I went to a lot of places over 10 days, but the highlights were: St. Lawrence (amazing Quebec-type food like tortiere, trout and of course foie, with an epic Paris-style rice pudding for dessert); Hawksworth for it's $28 lunch (with wine pa...

Great recommendations, and I'll add also "Provence Marinaside" restaurant, which has a "tappy hour" from 3-5pm that had a huge selection of BTG, including some top-end local stuff. Bonus point: the local Costco sells $100 gift cards for $80. On the topic of YVR duty free, I found myself in the domes...

Vancouver: where to taste/buy Okanagan, and YVR Buys

Headed to Vancouver tomorrow for Spring Break, and have the restaurant research done. Just wondering if anyone has recent experience with good venues to taste (ideally by the glass) Okanagan reds in the downtown area? Also looking for insight on any finds in the duty-free at Vancouver YVR airport - ...
