Northern Rhône would be fun. There was also talk of an aged Oregon Pinot night that would be equally enjoyable.

Anyone tried bringing wine to Din Tai Fung (U village specifically) ? I'm thinking aged Oregon Pinot and dumplings could be a thing. I called. it's $15 Now you've got me wondering if I should bring a bottle to our monthly dim sum gathering! Guess the restaurant has to have a liquor license, though....

Re: James Suckling Teaches Wine Appreciation | Official Trailer | MasterClass

I signed up for the all access pass to get Aaron Franklin's segment. I decided to watch a few minutes of Suckling doing a blind tasting. "This wine isn't very good. I wouldn't finish the glass. 87 points." I knew he inflated his grades but won't finish my glass is more of a 75-80 for me. 87 for not ...

Sounds like I'll only pick up a British sparkling while in London then and save the rest for my other stops. Anyone got any suggestions for wine shops in Lyon, Turin/Piedmont, or Munich?

Which wines to bring back from Europe?

I'm headed to London, Lyon, Piedmont, and Munich next month. Are there any well-regarded wines that are significantly less expensive in Europe than in the states? My local wine shop told me to keep an eye out for Domaine Tempier single vineyard bottlings, and for stuff in Kermit Lynch's portfolio, b...

Fat Duck - Wine pairings worth it?

Looking to do The Journey lunch at the Fat Duck in London next month, and wondering if any of the beverage or wine pairings are worth it. Re: Matchstick reduction

Several of the chardonnays I picked up on a recent trip to Oregon have a fair amount of matchstick reduction, which I enjoy, but some of my friends do not. It can dominate the nose by suppressing all the fruit. Should I just plan on giving the wines lots of air before serving?

1920. The first world war has ended. Ink is barely dry on the armistice. Spain is recovering from the flu. This Rioja went into vinification. Re: Willamette Valley Memorial Day weekend events?

Day 1: Evening Land. Didn't love the Gamay. The Pinot was good but maybe trending towards California ripeness. The Chardonnay was reductive and stunning. Antica Terra: they paired their wine with food that was too bold. Everything was great but $110 for an entry level rosé? Really? Eyrie Vineyards: ...

I've recently become more serious about laying down wines for future enjoyment (with a 10-20 year time horizon). I've set some cellar targets based on what I enjoy today (e.g., X cases of Burgundy, Y cases of Bordeaux, Z cases of Barolo, M cases of Mosel Riesling, N cases of Oregon Pinot Noir, etc.)...

Re: Are wine aerators necessary or just a nice accessory?

I'm a pretty big fan of the Nuance Wine Finer. It aerates the wine just enough, but it really shines in filtering out sediment (the amount it catches is scary sometimes), acting as a no-drip pour spout, and then at the end of the night you put the cap on it and it's basically like putting a cork in ...

+1 to both Pike and McCarthy and Schiering. Esquin is good too but prices are high.

Champion Wine Cellars up in Greenlake is great, but their prices can also be a bit high at times.

Wine Outlet in Interbay is good too, with pretty good prices, though they have a totally random assortment.

Mold growing on bottles in my wine refrigerator

I picked up a 166-bottle Smith & Hanks Dual-Zone Wine Cellar last summer, and quickly filled it with all the wine I wanted to age for the next 5-15 years (anything longer and I'd be more seriously considering off-site storage). Fast forward six months, and I've noticed substantial mold growth on the...
