Really? A restaurant whose diners can bring their own wines seems more likely to keep a better wine list. Otherwise, unsold wines are dead money.

Google is your friend! Lead capsules were phased out in the 1990's. Cheap or expensive, California reds after 1996 are pretty much dead to me. The overload of sweetness, alcohol, manipulation, self-congratulation, and show-off status make the 1997 and later vintages generally a no-go zone.
